  1. Excel will take the data any way you have it and find the highest of lowest values. It doesn't need to be sorted like that. I have my entire weather record in Excel and have many cases where I need to know the highest or lowest values in a range. It doesn't matter how the range is laid out - it will find the highest or lowest values.
  2. Yeah, enjoy it while you can....it might be the last for a while.
  3. That is one wonky map...who drew the U.S. over the northern Pacific? LOL I guess you can just find the weather that you want and draw in the U.S. to make it look like you're there.
  4. Yeah, if I look at my top 10 warmest Septembers it's like a who's who of Septembers in the 2000s, including 2015, 2016 & 2017. In fact, they are ALL 2000+ for the top 10.
  5. I agree...it's certainly felt that way. That's why I was kind of surprised when I looked at the empirical data. I was sure that some of the stretches we had at the end of July/early August were going to set some kind of stretches but when I compared them to 2013 - at least at my station - it wasn't as bad. I think where this summer stands out is the longevity of the pattern from July straight through August with generally humid conditions whereas 2013 was basically centered around that 30 day stretch.
  6. Check out September 2013 - I show several days that we bottomed out in the 30s and it ranks in my top 10 for coolest Septembers. In terms of hard freezes, it looks like 2000 was my last one in September.
  7. With the last few days of August and met summer upon us I looked back to see how this summer compared to other humid summers I have on record and was kind of surprised how humid some past summers were. Using a minimum temperature of 65° as a base, I keep track of the number of days in which the low is 65° or higher and so far this year I have 25 - but I know I'm going to add several over the next few mornings. I've seen 1988 mentioned as benchmark and that year I had 19 days with a low 65° or higher so this year beats that year hands down. It looks like my benchmark year is 2013 where I had 37 such days. That includes an incredible 30 day stretch from late June to late July that I didn't go under 65°. The longest stretch this summer was 7 days. I had several stretches of 5 days but they were broken up. If I look at a higher threshold of say 70°+, I had 10 such days in 2013 and 3 this year. Based on my electric bills and stretches where I've had to run the AC continuously, it's been a pretty hot & humid summer but it's interesting how it compares to summers in the past - at least for me.
  8. September is one of my favorite times of year to travel. Public school kids are back in school and the weather is awesome pretty much across the country. Having said that, for me it's the start of meteorological fall. That doesn't mean its not a spectacular time of year.
  9. Very good! And December is a winter month and March is a spring month. You're catching on!
  10. An above normal September is not the same thing as an above normal July. Wishful thinking though....
  11. Not all liquid sugars are equal. You can't compare honey and maple syrup to high fructose corn syrup. Besides, there's several flaws in some of the studies cited. The digestive process is different for liquids and solids. They try to act like they are equal. You also need to avoid artificial sweeteners because it tricks the body and wreaks havoc with your body. If you're gonna use a sweetener, it might as well be a natural one.
  12. Probably a wise choice. I'm further down Main Street near Tower Square and got in about 7 with no issues. Traffic was actually light but down towards the casino it was another story. I saw pictures and the crowds were filling the streets for blocks down towards State St. Along with the closures, I think you made a good choice.
  13. I'm on the outside looking in myself and do find it kind of humorous. I do sell maple syrup to a couple of brewers outside of New England but haven't had any luck with anyone locally.
  14. Send some of that down here...seems like a broken record of lows in the 60s and we're pushing late August. I haven't seen 40s for about a month...lol
  15. I'd look at a different antenna. You have plenty of strong signals that you should be able to pick up: http://www.tvfool.com/?option=com_wrapper&Itemid=29&q=id%3d90386f2565d1e9 Anything above 0 in the NM(db) column should be receivable by most antenna's. A good outdoor one with a pre-amp would get you anything above about -20. So if the antenna you picked is not picking up any of the positive stations that have a line of sight (LOS) path, it's not working.
  16. I used to have something similar and then went with a Rohn Tower that I found on Craigslist from a former Ham operator. I think the 40' tower was $150 or something like that. The guy just had it laying around but the 10' sections are made from aluminum and are self standing. I just have a TV antenna up there right now at 30' and reserved the 4th 10' section for future use because I just didn't need the extra height. Those are basically the same towers that ASOS's use and you can go as high or as low as you want: http://www.rohnnet.com/rohn-25g-tower I see 50' ones for sale all the time on Craigslist, you just have to find one at the best price. They are solid and yes, you do have to ground it!
  17. 100 years after you die your genetic make-up will be in the public domain. Maybe they'll start selling 3-d printed complete human plans?
  18. You're on the right track but I would consider making your own pipe stand-off bracket with a few of these: https://www.homedepot.com/p/Channel-Master-Universal-U-Bolt-and-Nest-Assembly-CM-9017/203763054?MERCH=REC-_-PIPHorizontal1_rr-_-203763046-_-203763054-_-N and some long bolts and nuts from the hardware section. It will be cheaper and basically the same design. I would think you'd be fine with anything less than 2' with PVC and about 5-6' for aluminum based on masts I've put up before. I've done 10' iron pipe masts and was surprised at the movement.
  19. The back is broken climo wise...we are on the downward trend. You can talk about the different markers for the different steps but we are no longer climbing the climo ladder. We are descending...into what is to be determined.
  20. It's based on which TV market you're in. Northern Connecticut towns are part of the Springfield Metropolitan Area but are part of the Hartford TV market so that's what the cable company is forced to carry. They used to have both Hartford and Springfield stations but the Hartford stations cried foul and filed a complaint against the cable company with the FCC. Now the Springfield stations are gone. It's probably the same thing with the PVD vs. BOS stations. My solution was an OTA antenna. I get Springfield, Hartford, Providence and Hartford stations now. That and a streaming appliance...can't recommend that enough.
  21. I think he's talking about his temperature. He's on a hilltop so he is frequently 10-15° warmer than surrounding areas. For some strange reason his temperature is the right one and all others are fake.
  22. I don't know about 15 days but when all is said and done I need to go back and see how many days in a row I've put up lows 68°+. It's been an impressive stretch & number of them since last month. http://www.meteoguru.com/en/pro/ensembles/?latlon=41.95,-72.30
  23. I have several friends with area fire departments and they have all said that roof top panels are extremely difficult for them to work with. It slows down venting the roof if needed and even with a shut off switch the panels or series of panels are still active with light. Also the panels themselves are an encumbrance for them. One of them even mentioned a house that they lost because they couldn't get proper access to vent. They've all said they would put them on the ground which is what I would do when I have the money.
