  1. Snow has gotten heavier. Very nice scene outside.
  2. Awesome. Hopefully that soon comes my way.
  3. Light snow just started. Radar looks good just to my west.
  4. That is quite an epic look. I saw my first New England HECS years before moving up here. I think I'm due for another
  5. I want to believe the Canadian models, but I’m thinking it will be around 2” IMBY.
  6. Wildcat has excellent views of Mt Washington on a sunny day, some of the best in all of New England, so for that reason alone I think it’s worth a trip some day. But for now it makes sense to stick to the Greens especially if they’re getting consistently buried.
  7. I'd imagine snow tires are essential especially where you live. I've driven with my regular all season tires on a few powder days in VT and NH, and I've struggled with traction a number of times especially when rates were heavy. It's not worth the stress.
  8. Sounds like that definitely compensates for their lack of snowfall. I've gotta make a trip there one day. The pics I've seen are breathtaking and it seems to be a very widespread favorite. Since I don't have the IKON pass, SR might even be worth the lift ticket prices after a good snowstorm.
  9. Wildcat was pretty good this past weekend. Not ideal but much better than a few weeks ago. Lots of very good runs, especially higher up. I've never been to Sunday River, though I hear a lot of good things about it including from you. Does SR really only average 150"?
  10. I will say that my trips to Stowe last year had much better conditions than Wildcat, but I am biased because those trips happened to be the two best weekends of the season, both with double digit totals of fresh powder.
  11. What are Wildcat’s weaknesses compared to better mountains? I’m relatively new to New England skiing so it helps to know what to look for.
  12. I got myself snow tires. My car doesn't do great with all-seasons when there's +SN. Too high of a risk for me.
  13. But going into February, it seems like the EPO craps out badly based on nearly all the latest ensembles means. Meanwhile the NAO seems surprisingly persistent, but I don't know how much that helps with the MJO at the very worst phase.
  14. With this ridiculously warm base state, 2015 feels like it was many generations ago. It's like we've gotten 50 years of warming in the span of 5 years.
  15. Wildcat was so much fun yesterday and even today. Much better than a few weeks ago. The storm was very elevation dependent, and I saw a huge difference between 800' in Gorham, and 1500' around Pinkham Notch.
  16. If it turns out anything like that then I might consider using some vacation days. After this past weekend I can’t get enough of snow and mountains.
  17. Canaan is a nice little ski area. I’m glad they’re getting some real snow for a change after several lousy seasons.
  18. This winter is testing my patience, especially after last year. In the middle of January, I shouldn’t have to go all the way to northern NH to see a nice storm and decent skiing conditions.
  19. So are we going to once again punt all of January?
  20. I'm thinking of going there this weekend, but I'm not yet certain. Conditions sucked on New Year's weekend, but if they get 12"+ from this storm then that should certainly help. I don't want to pay for a lift ticket at Cannon or Bretton Woods, but if conditions are a lot better on those mountains then who knows?
  21. Since I’m a transplant, for social and career reasons I prefer to be close to Boston. Based on climo alone, I think any of the ski towns in northern VT would be ideal.
  22. Oh man, I just noticed that today, and you’re in a warning. That’s two solid storms almost back to back, hope you’re enjoying this!
  23. That’s just what I was going to say. The early January curse or period of boredom is a real thing. After Jan 15 or 20th it gets a lot better. I don’t know why but it’s been that way for so many years.
  24. I was overweight a few months ago, but then lost 10 lbs since Election week. Hoping to keep that up.
  25. I did! Got my first few runs of the season at Wildcat today. Pretty far north but that's where the best snow seemed to be. And of course social distancing comes naturally on the slopes.
