I was a dumpster fire weenie back in 2009-10. I remember being just barely content if not slightly disappointed after Feb 6-7 that I missed out on the 30+ totals. Ended up with 25". Never again will I feel that way (only "content") after a big storm. Of course, the following storm completely blew away my expectations.

When there are haves and have-nots within the same subforum, the main problem is not really jealousy – that is just immature and thankfully not so common. The tension comes from the fact that the mood will be very different for those who haven't seen a significant storm in years, as opposed to the ones who've seen many 8"+ storms that the others did not get. So people who otherwise normally have similar climo just won't be on the same page, because of these disparities and close-misses. Hoping for a 5-7" storm is not at all unreasonable for Baltimore's climo, so the disappointment is understandable. But it's all part of the ups and downs of mid-Atlantic winter climo. Getting fringed is not fun, but it looks to be in the cards yet again for those of us around Baltimore.

It looked to me like the precip was about to consolidate closer to the coast and the surface low afterwards. But it's the NAM at 84 hours so who knows?

The NAM looks like a regionwide 3-6" event with maybe 6-10" on the Eastern shore. I think most of us will take that.

Maybe I'm in the minority but I like the boom/bust system.

Unless I'm reading it wrong it looks like you and I both get more like 0.7" QPF on the Euro.

It is never fun to be on the outside looking in, and when HECS totals are so close by then it feels like you're being ripped off. Years ago I used to melt down over it but now I just focus my mind on other things when that happens.

I'm not feeling it for those of us west of the bay. It's not worth getting emotionally invested in what is likely to be a cartopper. Hope I'm wrong, but I've seen this play out way too many times.

If Philly and NYC get a MECS, I think a lot of people will be very unhappy with 2-3". Especially the ones who were fringed on January 3. Happens every time there is a 40N storm.

It was my favorite storm of all time. I'd never seen anything like it before (not counting Jan 1996 when I was 5 years old and have very faint memories). The way it exploded off the coast brought some of the best blizzard conditions I've ever seen, not to mention a snowpack of 30-36" while it was all happening. It was hard to measure but it seemed to be around 20-21" IMBY.

Of all the mountains that I really want to ski, Revelstoke has to be at the top of the list. One day I'll make it there, hopefully at the right timing.

Yup, you got it! I'm just over 600', and in an event like this with warm ground temps, a couple hundred feet can make a big difference. Still coming down heavily.

You are a ski snob. I agree that Canaan/Timberline have much better skiing than Wisp with more challenging terrain and more snow, but is it really necessary to randomly belittle Wisp? I personally enjoy Timberline more, but not everyone is an intermediate or advanced skier, and for someone who’s still learning, Wisp is a great place. And as nj2va mentioned, 2x is an exaggeration. The difference is more like 1.5x, and really who cares? They all get a lot.

Maybe brooklynwx is referring to the upper level looks, while the surface depiction is similar.
