  1. Something to note these 00z hurricane model runs were closer to the Yucatan.
  2. I don't remember the last time a hurricane model had an Atlantic storm modeled that low. This is some 3k nam stuff.
  3. 12z HWRF actually models a small storm that undergoes an ERC and expansion. I wouldn't count on a small hurricane like Charley.
  4. https://appalachiantrail.org/news/hurricane-helenes-impacts-on-the-appalachian-trail-and-nearby-communities/ This is tangentially related to everything going on with the catastrophe. The Appalachian Trail Conservancy is saying this is the worst natural disaster to impact the AT in it's 100 years of existence. It's not just the trail itself but the "trail towns" along its route. The AT is such an integral culture along these mountain towns and it will never be the same.
  5. Okay IDK if this is related but there was an insane amount of gnats down at Astoria Park this evening. I rarely ever deal with bugs there.
  6. I said earlier this has the potential to be what Irene was for the White Mountains of NH.
  7. It's been contracting gradually all day.
  8. Helene has the makings of being to the Smokies what Irene was to the Green and White Mountains.
  9. This might be better at illustrating your question.
  10. Spent 5 days in the St. Regis Canoe Wilderness in the Adirondacks. The autumn foliage just creeping towards peak. The Loons were incredible every night.
  11. Last 8 hours. Can really see the wobble in track.
  12. At Astoria Park. Can see lightning in the distance towards Manhattan. Heading home.
  13. Downpour here. No lightning or thunder.
  14. https://imgur.com/a/LaZRbDB Witnessed a Peregrine Falcon swoop in and feast on a Pigeon down at Astoria Park tonight.
  15. Nice sunset tonight.
  16. The human body, when healthy, is a lot more resilient than people realize. With that said I drank a lot of water and wasn’t running fast. I had water fountains to fill at down at the park I run at. Intensity was low too. I averaged about 11 mins a mile so relatively slow going. I also picked my route so most of it was in shade.
