gravitylover
I think the station a few blocks from me that I usually reference, cooked itself a little while ago. Now I have to drive around and verify a few other sitings as things have grown since I last did it, but the town highway garage a mile away shows 93/81. There are quite a few local stations in the upper 90s and some showing DPs in the upper 80s, the shaded ones are all hovering around 90. LB, you've never seen ground haze? Are you just becoming self aware and learning to observe and understand your environment in real time? You should probably refrain from putting your every thought out into the ether...

I've seen haze way off in the distance.... like on a football field, but never 10-20 feet in front of me, which is how far that maple tree is from my back door (it's a small maple tree 5-6 feet tall, I planted it a few years ago.) I do long distance photography and see haze in images taken of small animals and birds over 200 feet away, but this is the first time I've ever seen it this close. Stupid, just plain stupid but like I said in the main thread yesterday, to each their own for those that enjoy this stuff. That dew pt. of 81 is just insane. I wonder if it’s from being near the walkill river and the moisture from the golf course. Dew pt. here is 77 currently.

I trust my station, and had similar higher dewpoints with my other Davis stations in the past. I've concluded it must be the river and the wetlands pretty close to my yard. 94/83 currently.

SW was 73% KMJ and POU were 75% Gravitylover’s eariler post was showing numbers around 80. Makes a huge difference in heat index fluctuations locally. xram
97/82 99 for the high so far today. Dew points are crazy. Feel like temps in the low 120's is nuts. My lab even gave me the finger when I tried to let her out before

IrishRob17
Low of 69 here this morning, 5 degrees cooler than yesterday, I don't think that will matter much for the high later though.

It might actually mean you can heat up more quickly if the dew point is lower.
Hitman
When I got home around 5 yesterday the dew point was 84. House is situated in a bowl with a lake at the bottom and the stream feeding it. Its always muggy

Yes, drier air warms and cools more quickly than humid air. As of now, the dew is the same as yesterday at the same time and I am one degree cooler, so it didn't really matter. 84/77 now.

gravitylover
Over the last few days I set up a drip irrigation system for the garden because we'll be out of town for a week. Now we're out and it feels weird to be turning it on when I'm 4 hours away. I sure hope the critters didn't mess with it too much and the water is going where it's supposed to. hudsonvalley21
FYI Mesoscale Discussion 1552 NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK 0257 PM CDT Thu Jul 03 2025 Areas affected...parts of the Northeast and southern New England Concerning...Severe Thunderstorm Watch 484... Valid 031957Z - 032200Z The severe weather threat for Severe Thunderstorm Watch 484 continues. SUMMARY...Strong to severe storms will spread east-southeast through early evening. Damaging winds will remain the primary hazard, with isolated large hail possible as well. DISCUSSION...A long-lived supercell that initially formed in southwest NY has produced a swath of damaging winds (with measured gusts of 49-53 kts in the BGM vicinity) and large hail, reported up to golf-ball size thus far. Additional updrafts have formed in both its forward and trailing flank, which should help sustain an organized cluster to the east-southeast over the next few hours with cold pool temperatures dipping into the upper 50s. With upper 80s to around 90 F temperatures from the Lower Hudson Valley east and south, a swath of damaging winds appears probable through early evening. Other multicell clusters will be capable of mainly isolated strong gusts as they impinge on the warmer boundary layer across the coastal plain. ..Grams.. 07/03/2025
