eyewall
Given we have had a couple of significant and rare aurora events this year and solar max will persist into 2025 a bit, I am creating this thread for spaceweather events here as well. Other interesting celestial phenomena can be posted here too. These were my final edits from the 10/10/24 event:
Buckethead
Not space weather exactly, but I got a shot of Atlas over Asheville a few minutes ago with my phone. Pretty interesting times right now. Sent from my SM-S908U using Tapatalk

eyewall
Total lunar eclipse overnight tonight with totality beginning at 2:26am EDT. There will be clouds to doge but hopefully the window of clearing holds as it would be right around that time for western & central NC.

It was awesome that the clouds cleared at the right moment. Also overnight tonight there is an outside chance at auora (especially for cameras looking at the northern horizon)
eyewall Posted yesterday at 01:14 PM Author Share Posted yesterday at 01:14 PM Could see aurora this far south tonight with a cannibal CME arriving after two X flares. There was an X5 this morning which also produced a full halo CME so we will see how that factors in for another round in a day or two.

eyewall
We will see if the much anticipated 3rd CME puts on a show again for this evening! We may have to nervously await sunset if it does in fact hit at midday. May 2024 was a daytime hit initially as an FYI so that doesn't mean all hope is lost. Newman
CME arrival appears to be running a bit behind the initial forecast of a 15-18UTC hit. Seeing indications of a 21-00UTC (4-7pm EST) hit instead, but I guess we'll see. And of course, we need a southward (negative) Bz for the storm to be geoeffective! If it is behind the trade off is it may be less intense but we shall see. Either way yes we need a south Bz.

The sheath was positive though which doesn't mean anything until we get into the flux rope which we've seen can instantly flip negative (or stay positive)
