  1. Satellite looks fantastic. Tempted to get a half hour further down the road to make coming back easier but would be mad if that somehow screwed me, so holding tight. Now just very antsy, if you can’t tell lol.
  2. HOLD!! Time to window shop in Walmart for a bit before car rooftop camping. I’m sure the traffic will suck after totality but it’s nice to see the highway is running smoothly right now. Crossing my fingers that a lot of good options in Ohio means it’ll be OK.
  3. You’re only about 50 minutes from me… if the cirrus starts pushing in too fast maybe I push your way. Last stubborn clouds are fading here.
  4. Lingering clouds - but hoping the blue skies are filtering in! No panic button pressing is allowed til 1pm.
  5. Currently under the last little bit of clouds in my part of Ohio - but as others have pointed out, satellite looks pretty good downstream. Cautious optimism is slowing blooming into genuine optimism.
  6. NWS seems to think it’ll be okay in DC, but that was my read of the satellite too. https://x.com/nws_baltwash/status/1777255878766514433?s=46&t=YRAxGyE8QLsoshMtJniktg
  7. Satellite looks promising to me… question is whether the light cirrus gets in the way by 3 IMO. Can deal with that but obviously would rather not https://www.star.nesdis.noaa.gov/goes/sector_band.php?sat=G16&sector=cgl&band=GEOCOLOR&length=24
  8. I keep checking the forecast and pivot so fast between optimistic and very nervous for my spot. Would really rather not drive any further west if I can avoid it tomorrow morning - trying to get back to DC by no later than midnight. Also debating whether or not I care about having a cool place to view the eclipse from. Tempted by the Walmart next to the highway that will provide unlimited (but not free!) snacks and facilities - plus a crazy quick exit in the aftermath.
  9. Made it to Mansfield. Near the hotel is not an idyllic spot, haha. Great view of the adult video store. Will do some research and try and find a park to post up in. Good luck!
  10. 76 and 80 have been solid. Just south of Pittsburgh now. Also - f Breezewood. Worst part of the trip.
  11. Definitely some extra traffic on I-70. Not painful, but on and off slowdowns.
  12. Part of what spurred it - found a room at a decent looking Red Roof Inn for only $180. Figured it was a sign.
  13. Screw it - made a reservation for middle of the eclipse in Mansfield, OH. Very first city I started looking at. Can pivot a bit day of as needed. Let’s get it.
  14. Is that your official recommendation? I’ll hold you to that [emoji6]
  15. 2045! Perks of being young is that I can always try that one (fingers crossed) if I bail out of this one.
  16. Pretty grim thread. It’ll work out somewhere in a reasonably drivable range, but starting to lean towards skip. https://x.com/burgwx/status/1776717735252443230?s=46&t=YRAxGyE8QLsoshMtJniktg
  17. Yeah, I’ve been noticing places just outside the path of totality have higher prices but the gouging isn’t crazy bad. Considering getting a place 80% of the way there, stay overnight Sunday, and finish the drive Monday so it’s not too painful. As you can probably tell I’ve had a lot of ideas lol but hardly a fleshed out plan. Not a good sign
  18. My litmus test has been, do I have a better than 50/50 shot anywhere within 6 hours or so? Gonna rely on Tomer’s tool for cities (linked below) tomorrow and make a final call around this time. Increasingly likely my chase partner (girlfriend) ditches me tomorrow lol so I kinda don’t want to solo if it’s a tough call. http://arctic.som.ou.edu/tburg/products/realtime/eclipse/
  19. Another valid concern. Saw a funny tweet about people (likely) getting stuck in the mud in Maine with the recent snow as they try and go off-road to get where they need to be. Seems probable enough haha.
  20. If I got the energy I think I could make it to Burlington, VT, or the area surrounding Lake Champlain in general. It’s not that much further. Maine is too far and honestly too rural in the totality path.
  21. I’m unwilling to make the drive that far… which may be dumb. But that’s the smart place to be! Take some cool photos.
  22. I still can’t tell what makes sense between a range of Columbus, OH, and around Rochester, NY. Guess I’ll wait another day before deciding!
  23. Was just coming to check. Didn’t feel anything a few floors up in DC.
