  1. Would be nice but no. Some fam has been renting the same place every August for 30+ years. Great spot to relax, definitely on the quiet side at night. The lake speaks for itself of course, fishing/boating/swimming, and there are lots of sandy public beach areas facing all directions. On any given day you might rather be on one side or another. Definitely worth visiting, minor deduction for being inaccessible after 10/31.
  2. Frye Island is extremely dusty right now... A lap around the island gives you a thin layer of silt all over the car and the roadside vegetation is covered in a powdery coating. All the same, it turned into a pretty nice evening. Sun mostly out by about 230 and warmed up to mid 70s. Water about that too.
  3. One cell after another back built. Heavy rain and thunder
  4. Anyone know if 38 was rainy east of the center? Being more purely tropical I'd suspect it might have been. Most of these transitioning tropical storms have rainfall shift west as baroclinic processes take precedence, usually with an incoming trough.
  5. Two days worth of battery is a lot. They often take up like half of the collocated equipment shed. But many if not most cell tower sites do have gennys I think.
  6. hopefully he was able to procure ice for those IPAs
  7. While we are giving out plaudits and hazard pay, I'd like to thank the utility workers and dpw crews out there busting ass today. And their spouses at home with the kids trying to work remote, on down the line.
  8. We had several convective cells move overhead early on. Radar was showing very high velocities at range but as storms got closer and the sampling height dropped, the velocities were also dropping substantially. It seemed like it was going to be a bust until the sun came out and the rain mostly stopped. I don't know if it were coincidence or if that extra amount of mixing might have been the catalyst, because after that things got pretty heavy.
  9. Camping stove and french press FTW. But freezer FTL
  10. Power out and a quite a bit of debris.
  11. Best winds of the day after the sun came out
  12. Meanwhile... just dropped a TOR in GC
  13. Nearby NTU was gusting 67kts last hour. And earlier this morning Manteo put up a 51G68 which isn't terrible
  14. Looks like SW CT did get in on a tropical ENH?
  15. For me had to be 12/1 @ the Beast after part 1 of the early Dec storm. 14"+ dense and just about everything in play. Bonus points for opening day, and for having huge snowmaking whales adding to the terrain. Silver goes to 2/13 @ Magic which started off with like 3" new on some crust but skied in great and before lunch we were ripping Magician, Goniff, and the Black Line at high speeds. Bronze to 2/7 @ Sugarbush.... 8" new and mid mountain skiing much better than upper mountain. Got acquainted with mogul trails off the Valley house chair and had a blast.
  16. Pico has what looks like a powerline cut lookers right from the summit down the fall line. I've always thought it looked appealing although seemed like a no no to try it. Maybe if it were uphill only... Anyone know what I am talking about?
  17. There's actually quite a bit of instability in the early afternoon above some capping. And shear profiles are already impressive, albeit not as impressive as later on with helicity going bonkers. At any rate several modes of severe in play... Conditional risk early, and later on who knows, probably with S CT favored.
  18. I've never had any issues with my Mass plates fwiw. Granted I didn't go up there after the lockdowns and the bulk of my interactions are grinning in powder or in anticipation of powder.
  19. We hedged and got a pass to the Beast. First time actually, usually just pay $40/pop for the 4 hour ticket. If we can go north, then great.
  20. Win Smith (sugarbush) sent an email yesterday that they definitely intend to stick to the snowmaking plan starting Nov 1. He also mentioned that needing reservations was a possibility, and that they wouldn't be loading chairs to capacity.
  21. Yeah I did the same. Lange XT 130s and AT bindings without tech fittings are what I've been using. But since there's at least a chance this could be our primary mode of skiing this year I invested in Scarpa Maestrales and Salomon Shifts. The Maestrales are pretty darn stiff so they should perform well going down. Also quite light. Can't wait to test em out.
