  1. Whewie! It's like Oprah..."You get money! You get money! Everyone gets MONAAAAAY!" I am not going to get into the debate of who gets or 'deserves" money (Although our essential employees are top of that list)....but all this money is coming from one place and going to another. Money is never free. The more and more I read/hear about increasing amounts of money being passed out, the more I cringe on the inside. It's going to be such a tight time of being careful with money...but at the same time we need it to keep flowing...not sit on it.
  2. Something I find interesting in those maps is that the concentration of air pollutants in parts of Upstate NY (along Lake shorelines and scattered around the 'Dacks) is actually a bit higher this year than the average of those other years. Perhaps if those years were taken individually we could have an even better comparison, as it probably would look similar to a couple of those years. Maybe it's an increase from people going to their summer homes and all the parks? I am intrigued as to what the causes are of these slight increases.
  3. Good news! Although, I feel like these successes are temporary as many of us are going to be exposed to this at some point over the next months/year, etc... But, there will be advancements in studying it and treating it better as time goes on as well. Take care of yourself.
  4. The Walking Dead, Ozark, Quantico, and Van Helsing are some of the ones I've been getting into. Last summer I watched "Santa Clarita Diet" because I like Zombie-type shows...and Drew Barrymore is in it. Such a STRANGE, black comedy of a show...but a fun ride. Another strange, but amusing one was Z-Nation.
  5. Thanks for sharing. I think their response in doing so was a very proactive, calm choice in the midst of something that might cause panic. Kudos to them. Trying to keep a "trail" on this virus is definitely more realistic in the less urban areas of our country...and could save lives.
  6. I wonder why the total tests available are so low there. I have been trying to research if all the test kits are just handed out at random to certain locations, or was it first come, first serve for whatever hospital/town got to them first?
  7. Wow! Yeah, from the personal reports that some of you (especially Buffwx) have reported, it sounds like many more are infected. I am wondering just what the actual numbers are for here in Onondaga county. If you're actually at 7 thousand, I could see us being at a couple thousand.
  8. Do you guys in Buffalo know why Buffalo seems to be having its own fast increase? I know it's a very large city, but when comparing to similar cities of its size, it seems higher. Are there any large groups/companies where a large population was exposed at the same time?
  9. This "PPE Panties" gives me a laugh every time... Wait til the end...
  10. Haha! He's gonna get some nice sores from all the acid... Went to Aldi in Clay for the "once every two weeks" grocery trip....it was so somber in there. The last time I remember it being soooo quiet and sort of like everybody was in a state of shock was during 9/11. Almost everybody was extremely respectful of the personal space between themselves and others. Still haven't been able to get there when bread is available, so bagels it is...again...lol. I have been trying to find yeast to make my own, but have been having trouble finding it. Also, the frozen broccoli each time I have gone has been out too. All the other veggies are available, but never the broccoli. Sort of odd. Maybe because of its nutritious value and price combination. I opted for more expensive Asparagus. So happy they have the plastic shields for their employees now.
  11. Thanks for your personal/professional knowledge and experience. I forgot to mention that my friend's husband was literally living IN the hospital/other facilities for several of those 6 months....7 Million....thankfully their insurance covered much of it.
  12. This moment in history is such a novelty. In such a fast-moving, technological society, we are not used to having such a problem as this that we can't solve quickly. This will be one of those moments in history where students decades from now in a more advanced society will look back on us and be like, "Wow, that's how they handled that in an 'older' society..." We are just a small blink of an eye in the timeline of a changing world.
  13. The New England board has been chatting about a similar concern with many from the I-95 corridor seeking shelter at their summer/vacation homes up in the mountains.. Apparently there has been hostility towards them from the locals. I can definitely see it from both perspectives. Much of this comes down to humans being conscientious of others and not self-centered. Sounds like you may be feeling like they're not being considerate of the place you call home. That can definitely be tough to handle. Hopefully, when (it's inevitable) things start to affect your area more, those visitors can lend a hand and give back to the community they call a second home.
  14. Yeah, good question. My original post was addressing that the cost, regardless of whether they pay for it or not, is absurd. SOMEBODY is paying for it, so it is money going from somewhere into the hands of a select few.
  15. You make several assumptions here. 1) They do not live in New York. They live in Pennsylvania. There are other states in this nation. 2) My friend who posted this is NOT one to exaggerate things. She was not even stating it as a "political post." But, apparently like a few others, you KNOW absolutely that everybody is lying and making up fables. (I think I know better than you the character of MY friend.) 3) I did not say anything in my post that I was asking for "free health care" for all. Not to mention, they worked their asses off their entire lives and EARNED what they got. 4) I was not bitching about the many hardworking healthcare individuals in the country. I was bitching about their bosses/owners. There's a difference. 5) Going along with number 3, you seemed to make an assumption that I am some liberal saying nobody should take responsibility for things. I will say, based on your posts on here, you are a pretty staunch Republican. (Especially since anything that is said is considered "bitching." Yawn.) Hence, you are looking at anything that may argue with your thoughts as an "extreme liberal response." Hence, it is not worth it to have a very thorough political discussion with you. In fact, I lean more on the conservative side. But, I have become more of a moderate as I see how both CEOS/wealthy screw over many people AND the other side of the spectrum where people take complete advantage of the system and want everything handed to them. Therefore, my post was addressing those CEOS who DO IN FACT screw over many other people. I stand by my post.
  16. I have a friend who is 70. Her husband died last year of liver failure. He had been on a wait list for 6 months for a new liver. This year, she had an aneurysm and needed to have surgery done. She just shared yesterday how she was thankful for health insurance, because she had just received the bill for her doctor visits and operations...$150, 000. She said the doctors told her lots of people just end up dying because they don't have insurance and can't afford it. Her husband's bills after 6 months...... 7 MILLION dollars!!!!!! DISGUSTING. Politically, I am definitely in the middle and take no party side....and the fact that these hospital and insurance CEOS ROB people while they're dying makes me SICK.
  17. Wow, you've had lots of sickness surrounding your local family/community lately. My compassion is with you.
  18. Seriously?? I don't get benefits. I don't get the frickin summer off. I don't work a 9 to 5 job. I didn't take a position that pays well. If you saw my post earlier, I don't even get health insurance.....and you know why I chose this position??? Because I love teaching kids and influencing them. I barely get paid to answer emails and phone calls and facetime chats and from 8 am to 10 pm....I could go on and on. You people on your high horses who think you know what teaching is like..... Get off my flpping back...because I LOVE my job. I am walking alongside MANY families that are struggling with what to do. Parents who are nurses, policemen, etc..... Don't fricken judge me when you aren't even walking in my shoes. I didn't say I had it any worse. Once again, I don't get any benefits...none...and again...I LOVE my job. I just see the stress of all my students and their families. And no, 10 weeks of summer DON'T make up for all the UNPAID hours I work during evenings and weekends throughout the year. But....you know what....I teach only because I care only about myself...isn't that why all teachers teach??? Puh lease. Step off.
  19. Yes, my wife and I didn't have Health Insurance until this winter as well. We went with Excellus (Blue Cross/Blue Shield) and got approved for the Essential Plan. It is an excellent option if your income level falls within a certain range.
  20. Yep! One of the most misunderstood professions ever. I LOVE teaching, encouraging, challenging, and guiding kids of all ages. Being a sensitive man, teaching is definitely my calling. I taught for 6 years and then needed a break because I got burnt out from parents and their drama. Now I came back to the profession. Parents project all their issues on to teachers.
  21. Sooooo, got the news that New York State is telling schools to "forget the planned Spring Break" and continue education. To do that on the WEEK OF the expected break is disrespectful and maddening. I love my students...but this break was meant to be a MENTAL and EMOTIONAL break for teachers and students. My school has been working hard in educating our students virtually up to the start of break. I feel this is just the state pushing teachers to have to keep students entertained and supplied for when there are some things PARENTS should be responsible for. END RANT.
  22. Very true...I was thinking about that as well. Regardless, it shows that there are definitely more people who have it. I mostly do Aldi. So there it is disinfecting the cart and quarters. If I go at 10 am, it is usually reaaaaally quiet then. Thanks for the tips!
  23. Ha! There are definitely a couple trolls on the Bville FB pages. There's one dude who is mocking all the people who are upset about the people who were partying in the parking lot at Radisson the other day.
  24. I wonder if that circle waaaaaay up in Northern Ontario is a mistake. lol
