  1. I tried the shop vac trick today on a ground wasp nest (yellow jacket) and it seemed to work! Long hose on the vacuum and I duct taped it to my fully extended snow rake handle. I slid the end of the nozzle in front of the hole from 15’ away, ran to the garage and plugged it in. After running it for about 30 minutes there was no more flight activity around the hole. Kept it running while I dragged it back to safety and taped the opening shut. Now I need to let it sit for a few days in the sun. i’ll investigate again in the morning. The neighbors probably thought I was crazy out there in a hooded ski jacket, mask and goggles.
  2. It literally only rained for about a minute here.
  3. Just scored 2 1/2 cords of dry hardwood for $400! 2 years aged mostly oak with some maple and birch. I have to load and unload it myself but can’t beat the price.
  4. China has huge purchase orders for US corn this year due to all of the flooding there. Time to buy corn futures?
  5. My buddy in The Mission said San Francisco was over 90 today. Thats rare.
  6. Pretty nice day, hit 92 here but was not as humid in the afternoon. 2 trips to the neighbors pool today. Once after brewing and once after dinner. Water 82F. 74/64 now, we take.
  7. I may go ahead and buy the Sun-Fri Berkshire East season passes for the family this week. I don't know what conditions this winter will bring but under $1200 for the 3 of us is a good deal. If school is virtual all winter I anticipate a lot of afternoon trips to the mountain.
  8. Not sure I'll stay awake for the line of T-storms since they seem to be losing their mojo. 75/66 may be my warmest 11pm reading of the summer.
  9. Outside of Ozzy, many of the kids don't even know who they are... Pioneers of Heavy Metal! Of course Cream, Uriah Heep and Deep Purple have something to say about that too.
  10. 82/70 at 10:30 am. This morning doesn’t actually feel as bad as yesterday. That probably has a lot to do with the-cloud cover.
  11. I want to know more about these "disturbing movements of planets"
  12. Still 74/66 here. Hit 93 today, gotta' check but that might be my high for the season.
  13. 75/69 GFS looks pretty dry right through late August, especially Eastern areas.
  14. How do you get an inch of rain in five minutes? Solid sheets of water falling from the sky?
  15. When it was so dry here in June our house was filled with sugar ants. Terro Liquid bait traps work great but they take a few days and they will attract dozens of ants but then one day they’re just gone.
  16. Yeah, I would've had to change my pants after that.
  17. Yeah, I had a foot out the door but our head brewer left, I’m tight with Jess, our new brewer and we are going to rock out some good beers. I like our current team (4 of us lol) and my wife pointed out I am lucky to have a job I like in this climate.
  18. I figured this was a much better thread to continue the beer discussion in. I’m just having fun talking about beer with folks, you like what you like and it’s all good if you’re supporting local breweries and they make a product you like. Although not always involved in a professional sense, I have had the good fortune of being connected to the New England brewing revival since 1990. I became more involved as an actual livelihood about seven or eight years ago. Just to be clear, outside of your right beet right time Brewery’s, rarely do small or mid-size players get rich with beer. Wr do it for the love of the art and free beer. Plus it’s really cool when people ask what you do. Enjoy whatever beer you like but it is important to try all styles to make sure you’re not missing something. Reading about styles is also very important to understand what you like or don’t like and why. Randy Moshers “Tasting Beer” is a must read! A true connoisseur, brightly explaining beer in layman terms. Disclaimer: I can, on occasion, be a very cranky beer critic. Style is style and you strive to get it right! Keep practicing if you don’t. The absolute worst quality in a Brewer is not accepting constructive criticism.
  19. Miller High Life tho’. The champagne of beers...
