  1. Are you on mobile? I think a lot of people bank on the fact that location shows up on their profile to the left but that doesn't happen on mobile.
  2. Yeah I'm not sure there's a "good" answer. Transitioning to remote learning sucks, but maybe that's better than closing and safer than trying to force people in? I really don't know. FCPS closed by the way. This is probably pretty off topic here though, so I'll leave it at that.
  3. Yeah where I am (the southern part of the county) there are turn lanes onto the FFX Co Parkway that are still not clear. Wild, I can't remember the last time it was like this with the cleanup. I'm an FCPS teacher - the opening paragraph in an internal email from the superintendent implied they are still deciding whether it's safe to open tomorrow. Word is supposed to come out this afternoon, but they are running out of "afternoon."
  4. The landscaping company our townhouse development hired to clear stuff out got their first truck stuck so the second hasn't been able to come in behind it. They're slowly making progress, poor guys. I don't think our street has been touched, and it almost doesn't look like Old Keene Mill Road (reasonably busy road during normal hours) has been plowed either. Either that or it snowed right back over in the early morning.
  5. 5" of snow in West Springfield with sleet coming down pretty good on top.
  6. Two schools of thought. Putting them up makes everything easier to clean off and keeps them from sticking. On the other hand, it leaves them or your windshield vulnerable to damage if there are high winds. I've never really picked a side myself.
  7. Coming down steadily in West Springfield now, all surfaces instantly caved of course. If it does this overnight I can't complain.
  8. Random question, is there a reason your beer pics seem to always be black and white?
  9. Yeah that's my impression is that the early hours are going to be the snow watching jackpot.
  10. Definitely trying to decide whether I stay up late, wake up early, or both. Staying up all night is a recipe for disaster, I definitely have to get at least some sleep.
  11. Yeah that's rad. My district will cover one class per marking period I think, but that should get me to the pay bump by early next year. My understanding from a fellow teacher is that when you submit the paperwork to validate your M+30 credits they crank your pay up by the next paycheck. They're pretty on top of it.
  12. Thanks! I will have to double-check that their stuff is accepted in VA, who are sometimes sticklers about things. But I'm not far from my Masters+30 and that sweet sweet pay bump, so this might be a cost-effective way to get over the hump.
  13. I'm a teacher, it's a graduate-level class to keep my teaching certification. Unvarnished opinion - it's a bit of a waste of my time. It's a class about classroom management and I've been teaching for 19 years. If I couldn't manage a class of teenagers by now, I'd already have been out of the profession. I'm just checking a box on a form.
  14. I have a paper due at midnight. I'm mostly done with it but my brain is struggling with the last little bit. Gonna step outside for a sec in my hoodie and pajama pants and just get blasted by mother nature.
  15. D...does that say 17%? Sounds tasty though, I might have to try to track that down. Yeah, unless this storm busts hard I don't see school being in the cards for Fairfax. I'm a teacher and a memo went out already saying the county knows that canceling the last days of the grading period causes problems and they have several contingency plans in the works. Edit: Just to be clear, Fairfax has not canceled anything for the week yet, but it seems clear they expect to be off multiple days.
