  1. -18 The house is not popping yet. I'm quite shocked. Maybe it's because I have a new heat system.
  2. Up here, it has been solidly cold. Which you would think we would have a ton of snow by now- except most of the main storm events have been rain or drizzle. But even then, it really didn't get warm enough to melt any of the pond ice. 24-48hrs of temps in the 30s-40s does minimal damage. We started getting cold enough for pond ice by mid October and November was cold with no up and down temp swings so we just kept building ice. I think there was ice fishing by end of November, maybe thanksgiving- ish. And then Dec was cold and Jan...there is a lot of good ice this year. Snowmobiling, unfortunately, still struggling. The main storm events have mostly been rain or sleet. With the lighter snows coming as upslope or arctic frontal passages. These last 2 events up here were snow, but Bretton Woods got shadowed. The local area from Bethlehem Whitefield Jefferson Lancaster actually got 6 inches in each storm. Snowmobiling is decent now, but the natural snow cover is thin.
  3. Its a wee bit chilly....Great for ice fishing. No trucks or ATVS breaking through the ice this year. My friend built himself a 5x8 Bob house. Put it out on the ice last weekend at Martin Meadow. Cut some holes in the ice and said the ice was at least 24 inches thick

  5. She on a mast cell stabilizer like Cromolyn (sp?) I use the OTC mast cell stabilizer eye drops for when my eyes get attacked, and it works superfast. Made with Ketotifen. Going to order the mast cell stabilizer nasal spray. I have lived off of Afrin for over 2 years. I'm thinking about peptide therapy. Maybe BPC-157, and there are a few others that could be helpful, can't remember their names off the top of my head. And I just read some research that creatine and glutathione can act as mast cell stabilizers
  6. -20 fun times. I had a propane heat system in my house. It started having issues end of 2023. October 2024, it died. Needed a sensor replaced that wouldn't be available until March or April. I ended up using my small pellet stove for heat for the late fall, but then had the propane system replaced with an automated pellet system from Maine Energy Systems. Best decision ever! Highly recommend the system!
  7. I dont ski anymore. After my ACL surgery- recovery was hard. I am a person with few friends and moved away from friends and family qhen I moved to Bretton Woods. I had very little support post surgery. It was hard to get around the first 8 weeks. I was always in pain. I declined the opioid prescription and relied on Advil. I live on a hill so I couldn't leave my house on crutches unless I had someone help me due to the uneven ground and also we still had snow and ice (surgery was beginning of March). Couldn't do stairs for 3 months so I had to sleep on my couch in the tv room. Leg was in a full length brace 24/7 and I had to sleep on my back with my leg propped up on an incline. I'm a stomach sleeper so between that and the pain, I slept 45mins at a time. I had to go back to work full time after a week- that was a big mistake. The stress of surgery and anesthesia caused my immune system to short circuit. I now have an auto immune disorder called Mast cell activation syndrome. My body is pretty much a permanent dumpster fire.
  8. Any of the Hickory nuts from Nashville survive?
  9. I opened the door to let the dog out and got smacked in the face by a blast of cold air...way colder than I was anticipating. That was about an hour ago and we were already at 19 degrees. The minute the sunset, temps plummeted
  10. Mt Washington reported 4 inches this morning. It's a miserable rain snow mix in Bretton Woods. Temps stuck in the upper 30s. Happy beginning of summer!
  11. Next 10 days have lots of rain chances and then 50s for highs- right through memorial day weekend
  12. And as of yesterday, the hatch has occurred. Bring on the black fly swarms
  13. Temp has already dropped 21 degrees off the high today. 58 to 37. And dropping...
  14. Guess that means the hatch will happen shortly. I had my first humming bird today at my feeder. Showed up yesterday, but I only got my feeder out today
  15. Omg, if this wind would go away, today would have been perfect. Definitely dry, cold season airmass. Temp got up to 58 but it's chilly. Low temp overnight is 30-31 degrees. I'm super excited for tomorrow through Wednesday! I assume the black flies should be hatching shortly, but no swarms yet, so yay for that!
  16. Been 3-4 days stuck at 48 degrees. Completely murky with intervals of rain or heavier showers. Usually take the dog for walkies after work but haven't been able to. The dog is getting pissed. Maybe I can get him a walkie late this afternoon or evening?
  17. Around 8 inches of cement. Did a number on my back and the snowblower. Complete over achiever here. Forecast had 3-5 mixing with sleet and zr. Glades are open at Bretton Woods. Fantastic end of season ski day

  19. It was ripping. I peeked out at 5am and it was snowing at least 2 inch per hour. I estimated off of my deck railing. There could have been 4 inches at that point and then if snowed at that intensity for another hour or 2... It was probably one of the heaviest snowfall rates of the entire season. Now we are just off an on light snow
  20. Truth be told, I'd rather be tracking the 70 degree temps, than be under a winter storm watch. I've shifted from cold season into warm season mode.
