January: Medium/ Long Range: May the Force be with Us....

Last 'powdery/dry' snow I remember was 3/3/16. 5 inches on the money with 0.24 liquid. About a 21-1 ratio. -

Well, I'm basically 'jackpotted' with this (between the 16.0 and 17.8) so NOT a final solution, lol. It'll drift back and forth, and I'm fine with that, long as the storm in general hangs in the area. -

Nice line has formed from Parkersburg down to almost Beckley WV heading ENE. Had a gusty shower roll thru here in last 30 minutes, only a 29 mph gust.

Gusty SSE breezes around 25-28 mph in last couple of hours. Currently 49.8/43.6 and mostly cloudy.

Roanoke is at -2.0 with a day to go on 18 neg days. Back on the 7th they were -13 for the month.

WOW! Who turned on the fog machine? Heavy dense fog (freezing) currently with 30.9/30.3. Deck is slick and cars have some ice on them.

Almost set a daily precip record with 0.55. Record is 0.57 from 1997, course I'd preferred to match the type of precip too, that fell as 8.4 inches of snow back in '97. High was 59.4, currently 43.3/38.0 at 8 am.

Just 0.19 here at 7 am CoCoRaHS report. Currently 49.6/49.1 with light rain and fog. Temps fell back into low 40's before midnight, then rain returned and temps slowly climbed overnight.

The year after I graduated HS they (Alleghany) played Anacostia in a regular season home football game. I have NO idea how/why/what made that happen lol. Schools are about 4 hours apart in travel time. -

100%. I was just gonna say that. Sadly, any storm that amps up throws warm air back into the 'lowlands' making them flip for a period. -
NWS did a MUCH better job today, the sun pushed thru clouds this afternoon for a brief time (as forecasted possible) and we zoomed up to 52.0 degrees around 4:30 pm. They called for a 53 high, good call. Currently 48.9/46.7 at 5:45 pm. I like to give kudos when a job is well done since I do rip (as I did yesterday) when a huge fail happens.

Reagan's 2nd in '85. Oops, beaten by wasnow215 lol. -
0.30 at the 7 am CoCoRaHS report, looks like another .10 or so since. Temps that were stuck in 30's all day yesterday, overnight and early this morning have pushed up to 41.1 at 11 am as the sun is trying to peek through the clouds.

Or out this way. Cold with a high of -4 and a low of -14. Sheesh. -
High was 39.0, down to 37.7/35.5 with rain now. So I ended up 8 degrees colder than the forecast from 7 am this morning.
-
Still in 30's here at 3:35 pm with clouds and fog/haze. E wind. Was 28.0 overnight, now 38.8/33.9. NWS backtracked all day again, forecast was 47, then 44 now 40 lol.

You're in the 'quiet zone' out that way for the Greenbank Radio Ob. SOME cell service with V (usually on the hills/peaks), goose egg with AT&T.

Yep, give me cold, I'll roll the dice with the precip. In '85 I had a -19 low and the month was a -5 with about 6 inches of snow. No records for me for '77, but as a young teen I remember we had snow OTG for better than 3/4's of the month and boy was it cold! Looking at local CO-OPs, around 8-10 inches of snow for the month and around a -12 on temps. -
Rt 39 at Marlinton from Rt 219 (or Huntersville if you came down Rt 28 or 92 at Minnehaha Springs) east would have taken you back to Lexington. Two lane road (as most are out this way) but very pretty drive. Rt 92 down to White Sulphur is about 30 minutes from the turn-off of Rt 39 at the state line, then you'd been on 64 E to Lexington.
