  1. Other than the first two days, January has been very cold, close to minus 5 if take those two out. Nearly -3 as it is DCA will fall below 32 for 14 consecutive days. That’s impressive. I have not hit 32 Five times. One unsurpassed record from incredible 1977 is 35 consecutive nights DCA went below 32. Memory not perfect but basically during that run I think there was one day where high was like 45 and then back to perpetual 27 high 17 low. chesapeake bay frozen so solid that cars were on it.
  2. Only this 1966 matches Snowmaggedon, I was 10 in Salisbury MD Sideways snow falling , blowing snow, we had packed it down for sledding but just got overwhelmed by drifting. 6’ drifts not uncommon, 3-4’ everywhere.
  3. Ok well Jan 15 mentioned twice and let’s keep this rolling!
  4. In mid-late Dec things here were bleak but turned around Jan to cold and 4/5 decent events .
  5. So do a mid Atlantic guy a favor and rank it with your all time greats!
  6. 31 for a high so 5th time not hit 32 here I can’t find winter outlook thread . I went +2 , -3 to -5, and 0 to -1 But I did not order the months. Dec exceeded my + value and Jan coming in solid negative . Went 12.5 “ at DCA and almost exactly that right now it didn’t look very good in long range for us to have a good winter and Dec scary warm but big time turn around approaching a 10 degree flip month to month.
  7. I’ve often suggested that there is something in all the brightness and whiteness and swirling that triggers us .
  8. Hi when it was 1am and a dozen of us were outside in raging lake effect 12F with 3’ everywhere; I knew I was no longer alone. Watertown Cracker Barrell likely lowest snow visibility I’ve been in.

  11. Just wow on the chaser reports! Looks like Pulaski 2007 at Tug Hill 2pm obs 24F NW wind 22 wind chill 9 some blowing snow. I got one nice band and ended up with 1.5-2”
  12. Can you have those very strong winds push you down the beach on skis? I mean understanding there is snow on the beach.!
  13. The biggest drifts I ever saw was 1966 Blizzard at the northwest facing corner of girls dorm atSalisbury MD College. Right to the sill of the 2nd floor window. 20’ Whats your biggest drift?
  14. Light steady snow . End is taking its time but does come maybe ever slower than I though 1 hour ago i have a lot of clay and bare spots and some get zero sun and they have 2” . Most everything else 1-some 1.5
  15. Getting it almost moderate under those greenies , Cutoff moved inside 270/70 so another 60/90 mins for west of 95. We could not get accumulation going until 5:30 so wasted 0.5-1” . But it’s been good for almost 5 hours and can’t complain with a bit more coming . Then bitter wind chills with blowing and drifting to 4”. Pics those drifts please
  16. 9:30 obs Since last ob two hours ago it went very light so stayed at 1.5” and temp up to 32. But in last 15 mins picked up almost steady and temp down to 31.6
  17. Your myopia, like others, is incorrect . These malaise posts really are not weather related and belong in banter. At 6:30 the “it’s over” started and Picked up an inch since then and still steadily snowing.
  18. When it really sucks is we have a 10 hour event that starts at 9am and pisses the whole day away at 35 and light to moderate and finally gets good at 5:30 but is over at 7. Ouch!
  19. In fact radar has filled back to MRB Coastal can crank as it wishes but until western edge starts noticeably moving toward DC then we are good for snow. Might just be 0.25ph with 10-15 minutes higher per hour but it keeps going until at least 10:30-11
  20. 7:30pm obs 31.7F steady light snow 0.25”ph, 1” on shaded areas. 0.5 sun and all surfaces white
