  1. 1955 Connie and Diane within about a week. Caused some of the worst flooding ever seen in parts of the northeast, especially Ct.
  2. Overcast with an occasional light spritz of rain. Very soupy dew point 75. Breezy SSE wind, hopefully some rain at some point today. Sure feels like it but everything WNW.
  3. Looks like Long Island is missing the precip this morning, all looks to be well north and west. Hopefully before the day is thru something will pop up but I have my doubts. May have to wait for the tropical storm for any decent rain.
  4. The blowup of clouds and storms still look to be sheared off to the east somewhat.
  5. I don't know but I am wondering if the eye could be reforming closer to the thunderstorm activity. Another words a shift to the NE.
  6. There appears to be quite a blow up of thunderstorms near the eye. Apparently these thunderstorms are not vertically aligned but will have to watch to see if that changes. For anyone interested this is a pretty good hurricane info page. You can scroll down to the satellite view and see what I am talking about with the thunderstorm blow up. https://spaghettimodels.com/
  7. Yes the shear and dry air is no help at all. However the NHC indicated that the shear may not be as bad as originally thought. Anyway, it is not over the Andros Island anymore.
  8. Hurricane coming off Andros Island and it is about 150 miles to Miami. Now that it is over open water, we'll see what happens with intensification.
  9. There is southwest shear that is now affecting it and it is moving over Andros Island. It will be over very warm waters tonight and tomorrow and with less shear possible, it could still intensify some. It looks somewhat ragged now but the overall structure is staying in tact according the NHC.
  10. Those 2 tropical systems caused some of the worst flooding ever in our area, especially in Connecticut.
  11. Live cam from Port Nassau for anyone interested https://www.portnassauwebcam.com/
  12. An inland track doesn't mean that it will be weak. Of course it will be stronger if it stays over water but the major part of the storm will also be east of everywhere except possibly Long Island.
  13. I am about 6-7 miles west of Farmingdale airport. I only had 4 days with a minimum of 75 or above. Amazing the difference more grass compared to more concrete can do to the temperature. O course they may have had a lot of 75-76 degree lows where at my house it went to 72-73 degrees.
  14. About 2/3 of an inch of rain last night but a heavy bout of rain this morning took me over an inch.
  15. 1944 Hurricane made landfall in Southhampton Beach Long Island. I would have my doubts about the 200mph wind gusts unless they had a tornado.
  16. Today felt as bad as any of the days during the heat wave earlier this week.
  17. Gloria was not impressive looking to the west of the eye. From eastern Nassau on east the wind was pretty bad with numerous outages and lots of trees down. Hazel was real interesting because it went thru western Pennsylvania but the winds far east of the center were record breaking in NYC where Battery Park received over 100MPH gusts and I believe Hartford also had a record wind gust. Battery Park actually had 113mph, highest ever in NYC
  18. This storm, whatever the name is, seems to have held together rather well as it crossed land. I would not be surprised to see this be a hurricane tomorrow.
  19. Gloria was hyped up by the news media, so when it hit some thought it was not that bad. The fact is, at least in my area, the wind damage was about the same as Sandy, it was pretty bad.
  20. This path is what typically we get with hurricanes up here. It moves rapidly up the coast in a NNE direction and if it hits land, it hits long Island or eastern New England.
  21. The water temperature at Atlantic City is some 17 colder than the entrance to NY harbor.
