Fell to 36 briefly here this morning. If sky stays clear tonight, I expect frost in the morning.

Almost the entire U.S. has tranquil weather. Eventually it will change, maybe just in time for the snow enthusiast.

Warmth for the remainder of the month does not look quite as impressive as it did a few days ago. Meanwhile a beautiful high of 70 degrees today and now down to 49.

More on Hazel probably one of the worst hurricanes to hit the east coast of the U.S. At landfall, the hurricane brought a storm surge of over 5.5 m (18 ft) to a large area of coastline, producing severe coastal damage; the damage was greater since the hurricane coincided with the highest lunar tide of the year.[32] Brunswick County, North Carolina, suffered the heaviest damage, where most coastal dwellings were either destroyed or severely damaged. For example, in Long Beach, North Carolina, only five of the 357 buildings were left standing.[29] The official report from the Weather Bureau in Raleigh, North Carolina stated that as a result of Hazel, "all traces of civilization on the immediate waterfront between the state line and Cape Fear were practically annihilated."[33] According to NOAA, "every pier in a distance of 170 miles [270 kilometres] of coastline was demolished"

The highest wind speed recorded in NYC was from Hazel, even though the storm was well west of the area. Battery Park recorded 113mph.

This transition from summer to fall has so far been about as normal as it gets, as far as temperatures go.

As hard as the Tampa webcam showed the rain coming down, it is even harder now.
-
Looking at Tampa cam, wind picking up and the rain has been relentlessly hard.
-
Looks like eye is coming ashore just south of Sarasota.
-
Doesn't look like a lot of wind in downtown Tampa but it sure is raining hard.
-
This also has the University of Tampa cam
-
It claims to be live and it has gone from light to dark. I noticed the same thing, not to windy. Maybe buildings blocking some of the wind.

Here is a live webcam from the University of Tampa, downtown. https://www.ut.edu/about-ut/university-services/office-of-communications-and-public-affairs/live-webcam
