  1. Far west benefiting nicely from recent rains. Long way to go but a real dent has been made. Some reservoirs in northern California have actually filled. Not to mention the great snow pack in the mountains that will help in the spring and summer.
  2. I remember crossing the bridges from Long Island and it would be like another world at times. No snow on Long Island but piles of snow and at least some snow on the ground as you got off the Island. This would happen most often in December.
  3. It may have been. If we have to now average that out, there are going to be a lot of disappointed people on this forum.
  4. Still a little hope for Sunday as both the GFS and CMC have a storm developing on the offshore front. To far east to affect us, at this point.
  5. Actually hit freezing last night for a short time, first time this month.
  6. 66 my high, felt nice but totally out of season.
  7. I wouldn't call it fake snow, just very light (in weight) snow. Whenever it snows with temperatures around 10, it is dry and light. So it can easily compact when temperatures go up.
  8. I found a Climate of New York booklet printed in 1960 and refised in 1972. It is from NOAA/ Department of Commerce. For Central Park they list the following: 1960 Norms Since 2000 Normal temperatures by month- J-33.2 33.3 F-33.4 35.7 M-40.5 43.2 A-51.4 53.7 M-62.4 64 J-71.4 71.9 J-76.8 77.4 A-75.1 76.4 S-68.5 69.6 O-58.3 58.2 N-47 48.2 D-35.9 39 YR.-54.5 55.8
  9. Wouldn't it be better not to include this season.
  10. For December I averaged 44.5 high and 27.4 low for an average of 36.
  11. Still 48 degrees in the city. Most suburbs 10-20 degrees colder.
  12. Looks like a mild week coming up and then more normal. Turning cold around mid month.
  13. Heat Island in full affect last night, Central Park low 40 degrees, 26 here.
  14. Agree. I didn't even mention the storm, to far off and the way it has been going this year it may end up in Chicago.
  15. Models seem to be backing off somewhat with the warm up, after Thursday of this week.
  16. I have mixed emotions about the bitter cold. I know it is winter and cold with snow is what it's all about. However, that cold where you don't even want to go out is not really for me, especially as I get older. It used to bother me when it didn't snow, now not so much.
  17. Unfortunately that seems to be the nature of our society today. People get an opinion and then look for the facts that back it up and overlook the ones that don't back it up.
  18. Yea the month was pretty much normal or slightly below with temperatures but below normal with snow. The pattern in December was one I remember from many previous years, cold followed by inland runners followed by cold. Frustrating for us but great for the middle of the country.
  19. I hope you guys are correct but the models did not seem to show much improvement after the first week. It is a long way off as far as weather goes, so there is always hope.
  20. Many parts of the country had a pretty brutal December, we missed out. Now it looks like most of the country will have a mild first half of January which we won't miss out.
