  1. Yeah that is what I thought but Upton indicated those temps may be lower
  2. Upton talking about a low developing off Delmarva tomorrow night and moving near benchmark. Potential for rain and snow mix. Seems like a long shot at this point but we shall see.
  3. Just had 39mph wind gust here as front went thru
  4. The track Sandy took was so unusual but about as bad a track as we could get in our area. That constant strong easterly and southeasterly wind just kept pushing water into Long Island Sound, Ct , Long Island and Jersey shore. NY harbor was in the perfect location to receive all that ocean water.
  5. Yes plenty of rain in Gloria and lots of downed trees in my area. It was worse in eastern Nassau and out across Suffolk. I think the disorganized center went close to the Nassau Suffolk line
  6. Gloria was definitely a weakened storm but there was plenty of wind damage, many streets impassable with downed trees and wires. I would say winds in Gloria and Sandy were similar on Long Island. Gloria was not nearly as bad as Sandy in New Jersey or NYC. The tide flooding in Sandy much worse.
  7. The incredible thing is, Gloria is the last time a hurricane made landfall on Long Island, some 40 years ago
  8. Yes the hype for Gloria was intense.
  9. 1938 hurricane gave Blue Hill Observatory south of Boston a wind gust of 186mph and sustained winds of 121mph. Blue Hill is elevated at 635ft.
  10. Kennedy airport continues to be milder than surrounding areas by quite a bit. So far this month: Kennedy +5.7 Islip and Central Park +3.5 LaGuardia also +3.5 Farmingdale +2.6
  11. From 1920-1960 the average yearly precipitation at Central Park was 42 inches. From 2000 to the present it is 51 inches, quite a difference.
  12. Jfk has been milder than nearby stations. This month they are 3.7 above normal compared to Islip at 1.5 and Farmingdale at .6. Last month JFK averaged 37.2 and Islip and Farmingdale were some 3 degrees cooler.
  13. Up to 1.41 inches here and still raining
  14. 45 here and a south wind that makes it feel cold. Welcome to spring on Long Island.
  15. Hit 61 here today, first 60 since December 11th. Now down to 32.3
  16. Interesting that JFK with one day left in February is averaging 36.8. Similarly located recording stations being Islip at 34 and Farmingdale at 33.3. Quite a difference.
  17. 45 here, south wind gusting to 24mph
  18. Still flurries here. Maybe 1/2 inch, hard to tell it so light and blowing around.
  19. Ya know this winter seems more wintry to me than some of the winters we had with far more snow, when the snow came mostly in one big storm. At least we have had 3 winter months this year with cold temperatures. Personally, although I am always ready to track a good snowstorm, spring temperatures are sounding real nice.
  20. Lets not forget we were coming off probably one of the highest 10 year periods just prior to this. A 10 year average of 38.9. If we keep getting mild winters like the previous 9 to this one, than I would expect lower totals to continue and the previous 10 year period to be a thing of the past. We shall see.
  21. For what it's worth the mid Atlantic region clinging on to a little bit of hope as the nam came in further west
