  1. I am not sure I like the way that sounds. I prefer the more traditional fronts.
  2. Wow! Amazing storm. Lost power for a bit. Big tree fell in backyard, lucky that it was not in direction of the house! I will have to assess damages after storm has passed. I have to say this is the best storm in a very long time. The wind was close to the derecho we had a few years back, that's when we lost two other big trees.
  3. Looks like we are about to have a decent storm here. Very dark outside, wind picking up too. Constant thunder.
  4. Still have a hard time getting excited about the wind after witnessing the derecho last October
  5. Tonight Scattered showers and thunderstorms in the evening, then rain likely with scattered thunderstorms after midnight. Patchy fog after midnight. Near steady temperature in the mid 60s. East winds around 5 mph, becoming south after midnight. Chance of rain 70 percent. Wind chill values as low as 120 below. Oh snap, I didn't think climate change would happen this quick!
  6. Very dark in Acton now. Decent gusts and thunder. Nothing like the derecho last fall though...so far. We had a number of big trees snapped in half back then.
  7. Let's hope so. Those severe storms of our global warming future will need the fuel!
  8. We have a mini split AC, and so a flip of a switch as well. It's nice. In fact, we have units installed on the walls in 5 rooms.
  9. Scary! We just removed a few trees on the west side of our two story house a few days ago. One of them was a massive red oak 10 feet from the house. I was getting an anxiety attack during every windstorm.
  10. On the other hand, eastern and northern mass has done very well this summer We are about to get hit again, as I type this...
  11. Very powerful strikes here few minutes ago. Shook the house!
  12. one storm went by here. I think another is coming...rain getting more intense.
  13. That was once in a lifetime type of winter. Spectacular for sure, but we are unlikely to witness something like it for a very long time.
  14. It would be nice to see an early spring. I always prefer a front-loaded winter, which we kind of had this year with that very nice snowstorm in early December.
  15. Thanks for sharing that! Pretty neat. I would love to see the same for BOS if you do end up analyzing the data at some point.
  16. Has anyone done a chart showing the number of big snowstorms (say 12"+) per year in the Boston metro area since records have been kept? That would be cool to see.
  17. Winter over. It would be very interesting if the Dec 1-3 storm turns out to be the biggest of the season for the Boston area.
  18. It will cool to get a ton of sleet here, instead of snow.
  19. Yeah, well it can always be worse. Try living in eastern Mass. It's the dead zone for convection. Haha.
