  1. Nice! So you basically already know the area. Good for you.
  2. Landslides and straight line winds are the main thing if you live on the side of the mountain. In the valley you have to worry about flash flooding.
  3. No we aren't. Haywood is beautiful just like several other counties. A lot of tourism up on Beech also.
  4. Well floods and heavy rainfall are very different here in the mountains than the coast. It doesn't happen a lot but when it does it gets nasty.
  5. I live on Crabtree mountain in Haywood county. There are several of us that live in pretty good elevation.
  6. Also @gopack42 the reason in my opinion that this past weeks tropical system wasn't that bad is because it didn't get a lot of time to develop along the coast. It just kind of started to develop then came onshore. What makes Hurricanes so dangerous for us with them coming from the Gulf is the intensity and the ability to develop into something major and big.
  7. Thank you! It was a beautiful weekend. A little too warm but we will cool down this coming week.
  8. If you want to continue this conversation in the mountains thread I'll be glad to talk about the differences.
  9. You should follow us in the mountains thread then. This currently looks like it could be significant for our area but a lot can and will happen from now to then. Check back in with this thread and you'll get all the info you need on this tropical system.
  10. As @BooneWXso greatly explained yes. Personally I live at 3500' and have witnessed this first hand. Yes the wind can be menacing but with the possibility of the way the models show the storm coming in the big risk is flooding and having the mountains really just ring out every bit of moisture crossing the mountains. That's why we usually overperform in situations like this.
  11. A big if, but we could be looking at a significant event from a Hurricane towards the end of the week. Stay tuned and just be prepared if your in a flood plain...
  12. Went up to Graveyard fields today and it was nice but the leaf colors were crap and if this is any indication of this Fall then it's not going to be good. Sent from my SM-G998U using Tapatalk
  13. After a miserable high of 83 we are down to 69 already.
  14. Yeah hopefully the first tropical system at least comes through.
  15. I know we are in a bit of a drought but this would cause extensive flooding across the region. Entertainment purposes only! Sent from my SM-G998U using Tapatalk
  16. Yeah it's way early but the GFS is spitting out 4 to 10 inches in the mountains and the eastern escarpment.
  17. Had a high of 79 and a current temp of 58. Love these low humidity days.
  18. Beautiful rainbow this evening. Sent from my SM-G998U using Tapatalk
  19. Just for laughs from the 12z gfs. High and low for the first of October. Sent from my SM-G998U using Tapatalk
  20. Yeah I'd say this summer was long. It started early but we had our cool downs and it seems like every time we start into a drought mother nature bails us out like currently. Yeah the start to September has been remarkable. I don't expect to see the 70s until maybe tomorrow. That will make 6 days in a row of not touching 70 plus and having lows in the 50s every morning. Remarkable and refreshing.
  21. Picked up another. 05 inches of rain overnight and still foggy and drizzling today currently. That brings my storm total to 1.80 inches which is right on the money from the NWS. This rain was perfect for the soil also.
  22. Yeah it's definitely a huge help but without the flooding. Dang near perfect to soak into the ground.
