  1. It's insane how much the body adjusts to the climate it is in. The cold front dried things up pretty good today, and dropped the dew to 58. Went out for my daily jog and was so incredibly thirsty from the lack of humidity in the air that I was really hurting in the lungs. Feels terrific out but it is quite weird to feel humidity below a dew of 65.
  2. Ahh low humidity. How I missed you
  3. Amazon Alexa! Mine not only notifies my phone but goes off at my house
  4. Absolutely. When you have 41 million people laid off that’s a lot of unhappy people with free time on their hands. I do worry these protests are going to lead to a huge increase in the virus, in 1918 the war bond drive parades and anti-war demonstrations spurred the Spanish Flu on significantly
  5. What a horrible night nationally. I’d say it is safe to say this is the worst night for riots since the King assassination in our country. Apparently 50% of Charleston businesses have been vandalized
  6. Is that a ring of fire setup building? Lol talk about completely skipping Spring
  7. Well I guess this thread is done. Lol social distancing pretty much took a nose dive with the nation going full 1968 race riots. Stay safe people, this year keeps rolling down hill
  8. It is. I mean I won't lie I admire the fact that you and other meteorologists on this board actually went into this field. I personally love weather and history, and considered strongly becoming a history teacher/coach. Ultimately I couldn't refuse the allure of money and the opportunities in life it offers. There isn't much you can do about the way things are. I think ultimately major reform is needed in the public school systems as opportunities are stunningly unequal based on where you live. But this past presidential primary season was a good example of how something like Beavis said could never be accepted here. Bernie Sanders was absolutely railroaded by the democratic establishment for long time favorites such as Hillary and now Joe Biden. When even the liberal party doesn't allow itself to go in that direction well you have your answer
  9. It's got its downsides for sure but that wealth is a product of that ruthless nature. Its not perfect but it makes us so resilient towards major disruptions which is why the American economy has lapped the world. I understand this is an unsettling thought to many, especially if you have a more left wing view of the world. I by no means am saying this to brag but my first offer out of college was $65K with a $5K signing bonus and was one of the lower paid people among my friends. One girl I was friends with got $80K from Dow Chemical lol. Could things be better? Yes. But even going to Canada it's shocking how much more personal wealth we have than them.
  10. I saw that! Heck Monday-Wednesday show dews in the mid 50s for the Charleston area which will be welcome relief. Right now I've got a dew of 75 at my house
  11. Very cool photos. I see the condensation level was ground scraping yesterday with Bertha
  12. That has to be jarring. I was looking on Google Maps and it was crazy how many streets were closed in town.
  13. See this is the one problem I have, strict measures need to be in place, but a lockdown is just too far. I understand your personal worry, but at the end of the day business has to run in some function. I mean personally we are working with sales desperately to outpace their drop due to this virus, and if our team cannot reduce costs at a greater value than our sales dip then it's not I the supply chain analyst that will be jobless, it's the guy making $23 an hour in a plant that will. I by no means grew up with money, so it's a tough burden I take personally. Also I have two $200K approx. projects happening in Michigan that I need to fly into Detroit for. It doesn't matter if I have to wear scuba diver suit, we have to get the ball rolling in the meeting room to hammer out a good deal for these projects. You can only do so much over a Zoom call, so one way or another I'll be in Detroit in July. The reason the lockdown is so damaging is because it is a small business killer, and that is wildly important because small businesses cannot be outsourced. Your local hardware stores, restaurants, bars, construction (HVAC, roofing etc.) are huge to local economies, so keeping things entirely closed is going to be devastating to an area that does not need more of it. Lol the last thing Michigan needs is more blight
  14. Hopefully we do see an increase in cases as that means more people are getting tests. I was reading something by Nate Silver where it seems as though now we have an abundance of tests but people are not caring to do them. I mean heck if folks are politicizing and protesting against mask wearing, I can't feel as though they would be all that willing to subject to a test. If anything with all of these crazy rules I cannot see why it isn't required that all people must get a test once a month. It's concerning we seem more hellbent on keeping things closed than actually doing things to address issues (mandating a mask in all stores, mandating a test once a month)
  15. I've noticed an uptick in the wind here as well. Would've been something if this thing had just 10 more hours, absolutely would've been a Cat 1 and made our day considerably more interesting
  16. Agreed. You can see it tightening and the convection strengthening just east of IOP.
  17. You should see it here. Absolute buckets falling from Bertha at the moment. Wouldn't be shocked if we see 5" today
  18. Interesting to hear everyone’s thoughts. I posted the following below on the Lakes/OV forum and was attacked and called uneducated. It seems like in the southern states we are being precautious while northern states are just terrified of this. Apparently Stay at Home orders are in effect until mid June in Michigan and you are even limited on what you can buy at a store like Home Depot (paint and plants are non essential items so their purchase is disallowed)
  19. Wanted to gauge everyone's thoughts here on coronavirus. I've basically been treated as the devil on my native region's (Lakes/OV) forum for opinions on the coronavirus and wanted to know what everyone thinks? Haha not here to start an argument but the thing I cannot get over is the fear seen in the northern states compared to down here. Was on the phone with relatives back in Ohio and they were aghast that two of my friends from Charlotte came down to do beaches, kayaking and restaurants this weekend as though we would all die. I'm wearing masks at all stores and what not but didn't know if everyone was just hunkering down or if you guys are simply being cautious out there
  20. It’s wonderful when there is a breeze. But the humidity kind of came out of nowhere, it’s been very mild this entire spring with 75-85° in March-till now with dry weather. Each time those cold fronts hit you guys it kind of turns into more of a dry line so we don’t really get chilly, just dry. It’s similar to summer weather in Traverse City honestly March-April. But now it’s really something humidity wise, but luckily there is usually a solid breeze
  21. lol currently at 72° for the dew here currently. For me it's been the toughest adjustment since coming from the Toledo area, regular dew points around 70° are pretty tough to golf and exercise in without a substantial breeze. On the ocean it was 84°/65° today but at the house (15 miles inland) 91°/65° and have seen the dew tick up considerably since sunset
  22. 91° here today in Summerville but the dew was 64°. It since has jumped up all the way to 72° so am thinking it is going to be rather oppressive tomorrow outside
  23. This was one wild night. I was convinced it’s path would lead to dozens dead
  24. Unfortunately companies don’t work like this. We pulled our entire business services (ex. things like accounts payable) from Canada due to their high regulations and what not to relocate some into Mississippi and most into the country of Colombia. Now I completely understand raising tax rates on the wealthy as they’re mostly anchored to a nation, but regulations are tough because companies are smart and can work around them. Multinational companies run things anymore, not countries, so while I’d agree that some of those safety nets would be nice, large companies will simply go where the labor is cheaper and capable, net more money, and beat up the competition that isn’t doing so.
