  1. Bingo! I think the anti-mask wearers are idiots, and all of these viral videos with angry people are absurd. But shutting things down is just as absurd as being anti-mask. 21% of the workforce in Michigan isn't working. 1 out of every 5 people have no income currently. That is so so so so bad and I don't care if everyone has to walk around with a hockey helmet on as a face shield, you cannot properly exist with that high of an unemployment rate. I have a buddy who is a boat mechanic and his shop was deemed unessential during this pandemic so he had to work nights and sneak boat engines to his shop to work on. The biggest issue with our economy is it's incredibly service based & small business based. Sure you have big corporations & manufacturers, but all of the repairs for all of the stuff we have & most of the purchases we make in this country are done by dealerships and contractors.
  2. Idk even know if it’s economic entirely, lol it’s more like people are sick of sitting around. Restaurants have been absolutely packed lately around here
  3. This is what you don’t understand though. None of you are wrong about wearing the mask. The issue is the lockdowns were the equivalent of us all being grounded. What it has led to is people just not giving a bleep anymore. The lockdowns were so severe and changed our lives so deeply that it fatigued people. That’s where all these governors failed, they got too strict and now people are just over it. By and large Americans HATE micromanagement more than any population on Earth. That’s why no one is reacting to this right and we’ve got Karen’s flipping out at Kroger because they can’t enter without a mask
  4. Well this is the Democrat vs Republican debate lol. To each their own but that’s what the voting booth is for
  5. One thing to consider as well are the legal ramifications. Our governor here in SC and attorney general said they cannot impose any legal mask law and will not shut anything down again because of potential lawsuits. I believe the state of Ohio is being sued by all of the daycares in the state for their laws and the belief is that the daycares will win. You all have to realize by closing anything you are declaring people's work illegal. That sets up an interesting legal battle that could result in the states losing millions
  6. Unabridged capitalism always works. It’s why we have an economy worth $21.5 Trillion, 25% of the entire world’s economy with 5% of its population. There’s really no safety net for small businesses as you have to have outputs, and that’s what is going wrong here. I know this is a left leaning forum but I can’t deny the education I’ve gotten since earning a business degree in college, it’s staggering to see the raw efficiency in our country as opposed to Europe. But living in wide open Charleston I’m gonna tell you by and large no one cares about this pandemic. Just tons of vacationers are flocking these states, crowding places and taking a vacation from wearing a mask. I’m interested to see if a national law would work, it’d help us out down here a lot.
  7. It doesn’t matter what you think lol it’s an honest issue. “Good luck feeding your kids and paying that mortgage Bob, but we’ve gotta lay you off.” Hell I am in a spot now where my cost savings have to match our sales decline or else people will probably lose their jobs. Not an easy burden when we could probably just mandate masks nationally and open everything up saving millions of people’s financial livelihood. Going to be a lot of people who have to rebuild their entire life after this
  8. The argument isn’t that it’s bad, it’s that is it worth the cost? How do you explain total shutdowns to someone like my mom who had to fire almost everyone at her hotel in Vegas. Foreclosures are shooting up to an insane amount which is going to drive up crime as well. Is it worth going to extreme measures to prevent what is mostly elderly death. I don’t have the answer but it’s not as cut and dry as Stebo thinks. Sorry man but meteorologists aren’t getting laid off in this and you should understand that
  9. All good points. Ultimately time will tell but economically you’ve got states like Michigan with an unemployment rate of 21% & Southern states down to around 10%. It’s an awful dilemma to be in, do you risk mass spread or risk firing employees. Just have to feel for people losing loved ones and losing their incomes. A disaster on all fronts for sure
  10. Hit 93° in Summerville yesterday. That pool has never been more clutch
  11. I think we need a national law mandating them indoors. Actually was sitting by a family from Wisconsin & Virginia yesterday when we docked up at this place on the water just west of Columbia. They came down here specifically because of the lack of restrictions and the water. I think this is what you’re seeing in a lot of Southern states, flocks of people flooding for vacations because they can go out to eat and do activities without the Northern restrictions. I’d say the majority of plates I saw on the road were out of state and our traffic map currently is terrible. Extremely long backups of up to an hour to get to the beach
  12. So many out of state plates here. Seems like everyone is taking their vacations down here and that combined with the locals not being very precautious from the start has led to a wildfire of spread. Heck it seems like the whole state of Tennessee and New Jersey is here currently, many rentals are all booked up
  13. Well typically mutations result in a weaker virus. This is exactly what happened with the Spanish Flu, it just mutated out. I believe it was a form of bird flu that just ran rampant through the world, and then it almost shut off like the faucet in your sink and died out. I remember in college reading about this in a history class and was blown away at how it just quit. It's eerie how similar we're reacting to this 100 years later, thankfully though this is a much more mild virus than that one. The 1918 flu caused a massive spike in your immune system which was bad for older people, but really bad for teenagers and young adults because their body would fight it too hard, and wear the organs out leading to their death.
  14. 530 wind reports with 8 strong ones, almost all listed in the Great Lakes region. One of the better severe weather days I’ve ever seen, despite a lack of tornadoes. I’d say the wind damage was the equivalent of a Cat 1 moving thru the area
  15. You might. It's the inspector tool that actually shows true windspeeds and dBZ
  16. If RadarScope is correct all of those storms close to the IWX radar are packing 70-95 mph winds. Almost got a dang Cat 2 Hurricane in these things right now basically.
  17. Guys the helicity is not bad at all ahead of those storms firing in Indiana. Definitely going to be something to watch here as it approaches the border
  18. Congrats on the degree! Days like this I wish I were back in NW Ohio, perfect chase territory. I do think the tornado potential is being underplayed a bit, but we will see how high helicity climbs. Often in these extremely dynamic setups it seems we begin by hyping up the wind chances, and then it materializes into a solid tornado event. Reminds me of June 5-6, 2010 honestly, which was hyped up originally as quick transition to a bow echo that was supposed to roll through. In fact many of the MCD's were about the issuance of a T-Storm Watch. Yet as the storms approached they never really lined up, and we were left with a prolific tornado outbreak. While the low pressure is a bit more removed from the area (center over Lake Superior) I do think the amount of moisture and speed shear will add up to a solid tornado event for both OH and MI here today.
  19. I know the winds aren't as backed as would be preferred, but the speed shear is very high. I think there is not only a tornado potential, but strong tornado potential today for the MichIndOh area. Just plenty of moisture (dew is 74 in Toledo), winds aloft, and instability to fuel these storms.
  20. Well what's interesting is that Myrtle Beach & Charleston haven't really spiked much, it's Columbia & Greenville that have. The thought is protests at the Capitol & lots of minorities in crowded homes up in Greenville are the causes but that is just the theory the state is saying. At the end of the day what's hurting us is no one cared about the virus here except old people. No one is wearing masks and social places are packed to the gills. Even in a more progressive place like Charleston it's noticeable how little people care about their health in general compared to Michigan & Ohio. Just about everything is fried, smoked or grilled and I've had multiple people confused that I use that Emergen-C powder in my water here at work. It's like the thought of a flu season is completely foreign here. Lets hope this thing fades out like the Spanish Flu but it seems like it's all aboard the train at this point
  21. Hit 77° as a dew today. Cristobal is a humidity machine
  22. A night I'll never forget. An F2 & F4 hurling around Toledo, I actually chased the the F4. Saw it from an overpass clearly through the lightning strikes. Largest tornado I have ever seen in person. The wind rowing was so intense that Lake HS had to install turf due to the amount of debris lodged into the ground of their football field
  23. Meh hasn’t been too much to this point, but we will see what happens if the protests accelerate it. I think as a country we did pretty good overall adjusting to life with it in such short time, and current market data has been very robust.
  24. Yeah I’m thinking it’s going to spike like crazy here shortly
  25. To be honest lol I’m obviously an avid weather follower so myself. But the Alexa is good because it will wake you up in the night if something occurs
