  1. Just had some incredible rainfall rates. Lasted for 5 minutes though
  2. That would fit the trends nicely Upton went with a flood watch for the island too. Well see
  3. Absolutely zero at Jones beach not even a single drop. Seems late in the year for such pronounced marine influence. Waters are plenty warm
  4. Thoughts on if this makes it to the island? Just heard thunder at Jones beach
  5. Not one drop in Wantagh. Hopefully that’s about to change
  6. Interesting cloud pattern this morning on the island with clouds forming right over my house and racing north. Full sun at the beach
  7. Shocker nyc 6 degrees cooler the lga!! cant seem to get a drop of rain on the ss
  8. Great analogy!! This stuff looks pretty diurnal too so I doubt it survives
  9. I just finished installing plants on a landscape design project in Islip. I had to stop for the day because I was dizzy. That cell over central NJ looks interesting
  10. Ambrose jet event here on the south shore with strong south winds. At least it makes it bearable...
  11. That’s awesome. Despite 20 years life guarding at Jones beach I have yet to see one. A buddy of mine got some video of a big buck with a huge rack of antlers swimming in large shore break at RM4 last week. And I had that shark sitting. Good time for wild life sittings on the island!
  12. I saw a fairly big shark (6’) break the surface and swim though a wave earlier. The first shark I have ever seen in 26 years of surfing. A little unnerving to say the least
  13. If we are Going to play that game parts of the coast would have had 80” last March had those storms occurred in January
  14. Anyone know the exact location of the Central Park AOS? I would like to go take some pics and send them to Upton. I work a few blocks from the park and can do it any day. I also have allot of tree work equipment.......
  15. Interesting year. Elevation is very evident, more so then normal. Latitude was also important which is normal. But proximity to the ocean seemed not to matter which is very unusual!
  16. Sycamores/London Planes lose allot of bark this time of year as they grow and stretch. I just spent the last hour cleaning up exactly that on campus
  17. There is definitely truth to this. Anyone east of the barrier is basically screwed as any potential surge is redirected around the barrier. The good news is, it’s so impractical based on the size of NY harbor and it’s many points of entry and exit it will never happen. We aren’t talking about a single river Like Providence
  18. If Mary Lee the great white was responsible they would be searching for body parts
  19. Still doesn't mean it's a shark, but if it was I would think it's a sand tiger. They usually do not attack humans but a large one was caught Tagged and released east of jones beach field six last week
  20. I'm not buying either incident until I see proof. There hasn't been a confirmed shark attack in NY waters since the 1700s. We often see large schools of blue fish come close to shore in feeding frenzys this time of year. A life guard at Robert Moses was bitten a few summers ago while going for a long swim. It was initially reported as a shark attack but disproven
  21. It's a nightmare for surfers, swimmers and life Gaurds. I was part of surf rider in 2006 when we successfully blocked the project. All we had to do was mention the blocking of the view for, the boardwalk and the whole city was on our side. wave wise, extending the beach out to deep water will cause waves to break directly onto the sand (shore break). Instead of breaking further out in long surfable waves. When the waves break further out this disipates the wave energy so that when they reach the swimming area they are much smaller and weaker and thus safer for swimmers.
  22. These super wet cells have a pretty good propensity for micro bursts. There will definitely be areas of wind damage
