  1. This is exactly the point. For all intents and purposes this is a heat wave regardless of the park. But the media reports the park, I heard on 120wins yesterday “looks like we are going to avoid a heat wave” it’s just wrong and annoying to people like us. meanwhile it’s another perfect beach day at jones beach, the waters turquoise and pushing 70. Which is incredible for June. A full moth ahead of schedule
  2. Still gorgeous at jones beach, just got out of the water which is warming rapidly as expected. I’ll be be back in the city Thursday and I’m not looking forward to it!
  3. Another perfect beach day, assuming we do not see another Ambrose jet event. The winds currently about the same as this time yesterday so it’s possible.
  4. Currently cranking in south wantagh at my dad’s house. At least it’s relatively cool, I got cooked at jones today despite putting on sunscreen. Uv index must have been off the charts, I’m already ten.
  5. Gotta get those sea temps up to 80+ for that cat three that’s coming to decimate the Long Island power grid in September….
  6. Really started to rip at jones beach. Constant gusts to around 30 and the wave hight has doubled since this morning. Almost a bit chilly sitting in the life guard stand with such a strong wind. Still not on par with some Ambrose jet events I have witnessed over the years, with gusts to 50+ and the whole beach being a sand storm.
  7. Surprisingly calm currently at jones beach. Maybe 10 knots. Ocean is a gorgeous tropical turquoise currently. Water has warmed up considerably since the wind shifted onshore again.
  8. Just got home to the island and it’s dumping still. Back at work on the uws, we really missed out. Exactly where I need the rain for my gardens….
  9. Had some gusts around 40 on the uws. Lots of small l branches down, rain was meh
  10. Radar is meh. The squall lines we used to get back in the 90s would laugh at this event.
  11. Nice cold pool behind the line. Looks borderline mcs. Should hold together for the city.
  12. Exactly. If this fails it’s going to flash drought next week. Really need this one.
  13. I really hope that’s not the case .27” at the park. Which means I have to spend the entire day tomorrow watering. Today I’m working at jones beach and there is leftover flooding from this mornings rain.
  14. I was in college at Towson md for the college park (UMD) tornado outbreak, and we got the left overs of the same cell. Only stronger storm I have experienced was in Dallas Texas in 98. They are the far north east fringe of Dixie Allie. The reason I bring it up those were the strongest storms I have ever witnessed. Still, an impressive night down there.
  15. Ripping right now in lynbrook. Radar isn’t doing it justice, I must be under an intense pocket. So loud under my awning I thought it might be small hail.
  16. Looks like the line is splitting the city… ..urban heat island effect
  17. Very dark with rolling thunder currently at jones beach. Wind tripled in speed in about an hour too. Hoping to see some lightning over the ocean
  18. Nice baby super cell (discrete cell) moving through central Jersey. Let’s see if it holds together moving towards the city.
  19. Barely a drop here on the south shore of Nassau. Hopefully not a sign of a repeat from last summer when we couldn’t buy a drop during most of these events
  20. Wasn’t the blue angles, they were half way through the show (they are at the end) and they had cancel the show. A ridiculously thick fog bank rolled in off the ocean. It’s still so foggy here at jones beach we have the water closed as we can’t see the water from the life guard stand. And speaking of the water it’s incredibly warm for this early in the season. A couple sunny warm days and light winds and it’s in the mid 60s
  21. They tend to come in bunches. 54 had 3 events produce hurricane force winds on Long Island. Carol, Edna and hazel. It really comes down to the pattern. If we end up in a landfall pattern for the north east this season it could get real serious. 38 today, would be a 100+ billion dollar disaster
  22. Absolutely ripping on the uws. Flash flooding type rain
  23. That’s actually a pretty solid MCS building. Nice cold pool precip pocket on the backside too. Should hold together all the way to the city
  24. Fully expect a parade of majors in the mdr. Maybe even multiple cat 5s. Historic season incoming.
  25. That’s golf ball or larger hail for sure. Would love to see video.
