  1. Radar says it's raining, but it's not. With a DP of 71.2°F at the surface, I suspect there's a dry layer somewhere above because nothing's hitting the ground. 11 days and counting without any measurable rain IMBY.
  2. 10 days now without measurable rain. Getting crispy out there. Hopefully tomorrow night, but I'm not holding my breath. At least today was pleasantly cloudy most of the day.
  3. So it goes. Mid-Atlantic summer is upon us. Today was thankfully mostly cloudy, at least. My wife is taking her mom to the Kutztown Folk Festival this weekend, traditionally known in my family as the "hottest weekend all summer" just because of course it is. Somehow I've managed to be able to opt out this year. Something about needing me to "watching the puppy" or "catch up on house projects". The "puppy" is largely self-governing at this point, and any "house projects" can safely be postponed due to having to "watch the puppy" so it's a win-win. I think I'll be able to manage all of the above while sipping a beverage or two in my basement woodshop for a change. My wife is a saint.
  4. We've had 9 consecutive days of non-measurable rain now. I last mowed a week ago, and my lawn has barely grown. I refuse to water it though. It's still green-ish. In spots.
  5. Beautiful day today, if just a bit warm for my liking. But are you guys seeing the satellite imagery right now? I don't thing I've ever seen clouds like this: Probably enhanced by the low sun angle, but still. Looked out west windows and saw streaky clouds and then took a look at the satellite. Fascinating.
  6. Nothing. Had to water. Thankfully the soaker hoses are paying for themselves, but we don't have the veggie garden hooked up yet so it was time to sweat and get bitten. Really wanted that rain today. My parents down near Oxford got about 1.75".
  7. My parents are getting absolutely DUMPED on in SW ChesCo.
  8. Finally got around to replacing an outside outlet cover just now. I could feel the sweat beading up on my forehead after only a few minutes of fiddling with a screwdriver. GROSS.
  9. Got a decent firefly turnout in my back yard these days actually. Nothing like when I was growing up and seeing the entire woods behind my parents' house just light up with them, but better than in recent years past I think. In regards to fireworks, I now live in a pretty dense suburban area full of 1/10th and 1/3rd acre lots. I'd love to be able to set off some fireworks but I have some really, really quiet neighbors that I am loathe to piss off in any way. My parents own a decent amount of rural land though, and while we've done some pretty good shows there in past years, we're meeting this year on the 3rd and it wouldn't feel quite right doing such a big production on the day before 7/4. (It's kind-of a haul to visit them, and my wife and I opted out of road-tripping there and back on Monday when we both have to be up super early for work on Tuesday. Really wish we both had Tuesday off, but meh.) Anyway, looking forward to, but also dreading a little bit, tomorrow's supposed storms. I've got a 10lb pork shoulder going in the smoker around 5pm for an all-night smoke. Going to set up the 10' popup canopy as a precaution, hopefully it won't end up in the next zip code by Sunday morning.
  10. I can't believe it. The storm that was heading towards me just now is splitting north and south.
  11. That Reading storm whipped by JUST to my south. Really gusty right now, bright sun, and dark clouds to the south and west.
  12. We made it to 91.4°F this afternoon, and it's hovered around 90 since 1pm. So glad we got the soaker hoses in a couple of days ago (all 600' of it!)
  13. Got .28" here. Currently almost 80°F with the premise for a spectacular sunset through a partly cloudy sky. What a lovely, mostly cloudy/rainy day to work from home today.
  14. I think we had more official heatwaves by this time last year, so while the relative reprieve has been nice, these kinds of days still suck. Current project is to lay out drip hose for the back garden so we aren't out watering past 10pm. Just laying it out today had us both overheated and exhausted. When I was a kid, summer was something to look forward to. As an adult nearing middle-age, summer is something I have become accustomed to suffer through in order to get to the cooler months. I mean, I love how our area of PA is super green and beautiful this time of year, but I am not nearly equipped to handle this heat/humidity/hummus.
  15. Yeah I mistimed my mowing schedule this week and will either have to get up way early or just sweat it out tomorrow afternoon. Ugh. One day closer to fall though.
  16. Hot, humid and... hummus? What's the third H?
  17. Put almost 1/4" in my back yard rain gauge. Hit just after I got home, too, which was nice, for me. Not so nice for my wife and my MIL--my wife was giving her mom a tour of the back garden. The sky opened up suddenly and they got a little wet.
  18. Posting as a person doing field work for the past couple of and the next couple of weeks, this is a blessing. Last week had a couple of brutal days, but I'll take as much "coolness" as nature will give over the next few days. Looking at 90's over the weekend though, so indoor projects are definitely on tap for then. However, I do need to get in about 600' of drip line outside and that will probably take precedent over indoor projects as we have been up past 10 pm watering all of our new plants/garden several nights recently. Eh. Maybe the weekend forecast will trend cooler as the week progresses. Hopefully.
  19. Dude. I feel that. I have to string trim tomorrow to clean up last night's mow. Sounds lovely, might even need a sweatshirt! (Apologies, @RedSky)
  20. Looking forward to it. Worked outside all week. Wednesday and today were rough, Thursday was nice (after the storms at least). Was kinda surprised to get a static shock while exiting my vehicle after coming home this evening on account of how dry it had become. Hot and dry is a little bit unusual here, but I'll take it (for a little while at least). Tomorrow should be lovely for getting some yard work done.
  21. Just to your guy's east here in Reading, looks like an unbelievable amount of lightning. Interesting relative velocity in that storm as well. Hope you guys are hunkered down and ok!
  22. Man I don't like the looks of that storm churning through Harrisburg. Some "interesting" returns on the relative velocity:
  23. Drove to work through that thunderstorm this morning, it was pretty wild! Looks like we made it to 87.6°F at home today, currently 84. Might mow later. Might. Dunno.
  24. Made it up to nearly 92°F here, currently "only" 87. The lawn can wait another night I think.
