The other key if what I read on the MA board is right, the GFS is using the new Core (Fv3) and the Gefs is not. Unsure why that does not get more airtime as an issue, but I think it is. Again, old core could be better.

Sure, but no one ever said "all the models had snow or mix." FWIW, the Op is a higher res member but that does not make it right.

I went back to the 18Z runs of the GFS from Thur, Fri, Sat and Sun and the early weekend one was always snow TV followed by rain or just rain. Some, including me, discussed it up a bit in hopes of a better outcome but it was never a snow storm here. We moved on to the MLK one which is still in play... case in point, today's 18Z GFS

The storm tomorrow was always a cutter with maybe some snow TV to start...the one after was mostly likely a cutter in recent models as well. Blame the SER.

MDT stays below freezing from Jan 13th-22nd on the 18Z GFS. That period has 3-4 chances of snow for most of PA.

Mid to Late Jan still looks loaded on the GFS but I really want to see something like this snip become reality for several weeks. Cold conveyer that constantly feeds. Two clippers on the MR and LR GFS. We should not be mixing with that low track in Jan.

If the cold pushes start to keep deflecting away from the EC as we get later in January, we may really be talking PTSD. NAO's, MJO's, we can talk them all up but we need real cold in NY and South Canada prior to moisture entering the area. @Itstrainingtime @sauss06 and others, congrats to the Steel. Could argue they are playing the best NFL football in PA right now.

Need that cold push several days before to get back to what it was 2-3 days ago. This is LR stuff of course...model discussion.

GFS has this but it is less than it could be because the angle of the high/cold tongue a few days before changes orientation a bit from 24 hours ago. This has KU potential as depicted regardless of the questionable thermals.

It has been the same thing for years now. Simple Gulf monsters seem to not be coming around right now.

Surprised no mention of the Euro. It goes to mixed after this panel but a strange depiction of a due north movement in the low. Also, as Mitchcnick mentioned Icon now on Pivotal which I love.
