WGAL 8 just had Heagy's Produce on the Newscast. https://www.facebook.com/heagyspumpkinsandproduce/ They complained that the Great Drought of 2024 caused them to have to truck in water and the costs of pumpkins and mums will be up due to that....but at the end of the day it will not be "too bad". The latest HRRR says instead of 2-4", I will be watering all weekend.

Yep, three last 3 weeks of August (so far) have been brutal drought wise.

Carlisle just received more rain in the last 15-30 min than I have in 3 weeks.

@Blizzard of 93 if we bag the 2-4" that the HRRR is promising over the next 24 hours the hose goes away for the season and year.

Western WV moves to D4. These are Western US like numbers out there. The first D4 in the history of WV. Large area of D2 in the Laurels. Northeast Drought Summary Northern parts of the Northeast received half an inch or more of rain this week while the rest of the region received little to no rain. Weekly temperatures averaged near normal in Maine to 5 to 8 degrees cooler than normal in West Virginia and Delaware. The spot of abnormal dryness in New Hampshire shrank due to rains from the last 2 weeks, while abnormal dryness expanded in Delaware and eastern Maryland and severe to extreme drought expanded in West Virginia where exceptional drought (D4) was added -- the first time D4 has appeared in West Virginia in the USDM’s history. According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), 100% of West Virginia’s topsoil and subsoil moisture was rated short or very short (dry or very dry), and 92% of the pastures and rangeland were in poor to very poor condition. This is a record high percentage of topsoil moisture short or very short in the 22-year record for West Virginia, and a record low statewide pasture and range condition index. Reports have been received of widespread crop loss and water hauling for livestock and irrigation, pastures/meadows not regenerating, low streamflow, and dry soils.

MDT topped out at 96 HI. Some big local differences yesterday.

Since we did not get the heat to that level, it must have moved your way.

Looks like convective forcing and qpf to me. Not a stratiform type rain.

Another one that comes in 3-5 degrees lower than forecast. After a June and July seemingly featuring models and zones underestimating high temps, it has been a big-time reversal the last few weeks. My zone was 8 too high.

Score one for the....Fv3! Not going to make it past 86 here and MDT is sitting at 91 for a high right now. LNS did sneak in a quick 94 but other NWS stations feel well short of forecast.

MDT sitting pretty at 88 though they did get to 91 earlier.

Well when I saw some models suggest mid to upper 90's may not happen, I did not imagine we (over here) would be in the low 80's at 2PM. That is a full 12 less than this AM's HRRR had us pegged for right now.

An unspectacular 83 and cloudy in Rou. MDT has just creeped up to 89.

Today is the last day above 80 @ 18Z on the entire GFS run. MDT down to 73 or 74 already so Max Min may be lost. 71 here.

Awaiting MDT unless someone has an in above and beyond the 5 min readings. I think they got 90 but possible they did not.

The record high for tomorrow is 100 and the record max min is 74. I think 74 has a much better shot of happening between the two possibles. Still several lesser meso's which do not break 90-91 at MDT tomorrow.

Like many of the previous couple weeks, MDT jumped to upper 80's just after lunch and has just sat there going up and down over the next 3 hours though it is a couple degrees higher today than the last few times. Their temp could come in anywhere between 89-91 it seems.

Looks like MDT might have snuck in a 90. They are 89 or 90 right now.

Made it to 85 here but clouds have invaded pushing us down to 83 now.

Sorry to hear that. It is so hard to get the timing right. Not good in the summer and not running at all when cold so you just have a several week period unless you just go for it and replace thinking it dies soon.
