  1. You misunderstand the wager. It is the closest who wins at each location. If I am at 12 and he is at 120 anything less than 66" and I win.
  2. Your wager is accepted. Let it snow. But not too much.
  3. We only live a few miles apart. Let's have some fun. I'll take your numbers, move the decimal one place left for my snowfall forecast. At the end of the winter, we will see who ended up closest at each location. We can put up some kind of wager if you want. So there you have it. I am issuing the 1/10 challenge.
  4. East of the mountains our snow averages are so low that it is impossible to issue any seasonal snow total forecast that is much beyond a coin flip. Six hours of heavy snow puts you over your seasonal average. Not much to hang a forecast on either way.
  5. I divided zero into 100 to see how many years here it would take you to equal your one-year Vermont snowfall. Answer: ∞
  6. My cutoff is quite a bit below 1 billion dollars. I could surround my mansion with snow guns and bury it any time the temp went below 35º.
  7. Nice shots. The color is there but much more uniform than most years. In particular, the bright reds are missing.
  8. They changed our frost advisory to a freeze warning around 10 pm. Calling for 31º in the morning. 38º currently.
  9. Be careful what you wish for. Freezing conditions destroy the leaf's ability to manufacture the red and purple pigments.
  10. So about .5º above normal. Not bad. There's really no difference between 33º and rain and 33.5º and rain. If anything that extra half degree makes it less frustrating.
  11. I used to enjoy JB and listened to him in the AM on WSJS radio in Winston on my way to work. That was when he stuck to weather instead of politics. I've written him off due to his vehement denials of climate change. His Twitter has degenerated onto one snarky attack after another about the issue. If you want to be treated like a professional you should act like a professional.
  12. That is true so I didn't think it needed to be said. The problem around these parts is we rarely get those kind of rates.
  13. Here is my first winter forecast for the Piedmont. 60 days of bitching 30 days of model excitement Less than 24 hours total with snow actually falling. A snowfall rate of 1" per six hours if it is steady, which it will not be.
  14. The outage numbers for Duke Energy customers in the Triad are as follows as of 9 p.m. Friday: Guilford County – 70,844 Forsyth County – 17,303 Rockingham County – 20,870 Alamance County – 17,332 Randolph County – 9,662 Davidson County – 5,632 Caswell County – 4,190 Stokes County – 2,557 Davie County – 993 Montgomery County – 1,224
  15. Thousands of trees, thousands of objects. As they yelled at you in little league baseball when you had two strikes, IT ONLY TAKES ONE.
  16. Duke is calling the effect of the storm on its power grid, "death by a thousand cuts". There are several thousand issues, most only affecting a small number of customers. As usual, they are starting with infrastructure, hospitals and the like and then moving to the spots that will restore power to the most people with one fix. Finally, they will move into the neighborhoods working their way down to single customer problems. Those folks will be waiting a while.
  17. Power back on after a four-hour outage. Clear skies west with a sliver of a moon, still dark clouds visible to the east.
  18. Sounds about right. When the center passed over me earlier this afternoon my barometer dropped to 29.21.
  19. Same here. Just got hit pretty good with wind of probably 50 mph for about 5 minutes. Driving rain with it. Power flashed several times and then went out which is indicative of a tree bouncing on the lines before taking them down.
  20. Whatever you say. It only affects my opinion of you. Not a problem for me. I have 2 pms from Randy saying you would apoloogize if I shortened the timeout. I did. I can get his permission to post them if you want. Or, we can just go on and I will wait for you to hang yourself. Or, you can simply say, my bad and be done with it. I'm not asking for you to grovel.
  21. Since you brought it up, you still owe me the public apology you agreed to when I let you back. You remember. You ran to Randy and it was part of the negotiated settlement when he told me whatever I wanted to do he would be ok with it. If you can't bring yourself to honor the agreement that's fine. Just be careful to not give me another chance.
