  1. 95 here, sea breeze already at the LIE, don’t think I’ll see 100 today.
  2. Already hotter than all of yesterday at 91/81 (HI 110).
  3. They should place a micronet/mesonet station in a sunny part of Central Park for research purposes.
  4. 83/78 (HI 92) here at 9PM, I’m used to this being from Queens but it’s always a welcome surprise here well outside of the heat island. Pure unadulterated heat outside.
  5. LibertyBell with the highest max temp in the region.
  6. Sunshine, blue skies to the east, hazy everywhere else. 84/77.
  7. Looks like I’ll be spending much of the day in the drier eastern half of Suffolk. If we can’t get thunderstorms I don’t want any additional rain.
  8. Just saw a flight destined for Philadelphia land at Islip. Flights bound for JFK are doing go-arounds and flying in circles way out into Suffolk, which won’t be an option soon as the storms approach.
  9. CG lightning to the west, cloudy and breezy now with rolling thunder, will likely miss me to the north though.
  10. 0.07” and stopping now. Nuisance showers.
  11. It looked kind of gray, but very bright, over here, I just assumed it was smoke. I’m seeing some 89’s and 90’s on wunderground in northern Suffolk.
  12. Smoke is really hindering a run at 90 it seems.
  13. Very smoky 71 on the south shore, 81 at my PWS on the north shore.
  14. Periodical Cicadas emerging in Suffolk. Last week I thought I was hearing the normal cicadas which usually emerge deeper into summer, but nope, spotted Brood 14 cicadas in both Port Jefferson and Yaphank today.
  15. Speaking of JFK, I remember when it hit 99 under fully overcast skies with a W or NW wind. I don’t remember what year that was but it was in the early 2010’s when I still lived in Queens, it felt so weird.
  16. Partly cloudy to mostly sunny and mid 60’s right now. People in shorts and t-shirts. High of 68, low of 47. Turned out better than I was expecting today.
  17. Southern Pine Beetles are annihilating the Pitch Pines in Suffolk. Entire stands of dead trees visible along the LIE and William Floyd Parkway. The ones that died 2-3 years ago are coming down in 40 mph wind events.
  18. A lot warmer today than I was expecting. Mid 70’s right now.
  19. High of 83, now 71.
  20. I was wondering where the random air quality alert came from, no fire was mentioned in it.
