Sad there is such little enthusiasm about sports this year. The no fans thing definitely has put a damper on it. I just can't get into it. There is absolutely nothing better than Stanley Cup games in packed arenas. Feels like watching club hockey.

It certainly does have a different feel...certainly a much different vibe...but at least the pace of play has been playoff like which is great. But the thrill of the crowd, noise, and everyone going nuts after a goal...that's a huge loss.

It’s not going well in the very early stages:

Covid-19 infections among students have already caused some colleges to halt in-person classes:

I just can't see how schools can go back. Going to kill progress that has been made in the states that have worked hard to contain and it will only make things worse in states being hit hard.

For the heat lovers, would you prefer to get one or two record high temps in a summer or a bunch of 90s like this one?
Have any of the 4 SNE climo sites set daily  record high temps this season?

For me, I don't necessarily care about the record high temps. I just want it hot....or like very warm. 90's is great but if it could be in the 80's every day from May -September I would be extremely happy. 70's in October and April. I can tolerate 30's and 40's in winter but getting into the 20's and lower....brutal.

  4. There's been some pretty encouraging news regarding how long anti-bodies last post-COVID infection. Seems to be settling down some of the concerns early on about how long they persist. But apparently even in mild cases the results are looking promising.

I also wonder how we continue to do so well in CT...considering how many other states continue to see things out of control. Not sure what's up with the blip circled but I don't recall any daily % numbers that high but we have been hovering around or below 1% for nearly two months now.

Super nervous though if schools re-open and the news with UCONN is a little uneasy

    I hope you're right

Especially if the Gulf becomes active or the southeast U.S. The pattern is setup to get some stronger troughs to start digging into the east. but who the hell knows...pattern could completely flip and as we move through fall we see a trough develop in the west.

  6. I wish I really enjoyed it more. I did go to the beach probably at least a dozen times and went hiking several times but I still wish I got outside and enjoyed more...especially during the week. One thing I miss about West Hartford was the center and walking around...I used to go on 1-2 hour walks so much. I did get myself back into playing Pokemon Go after 3 years so that got me to do a little more walking.

Anyways though...as much as I love heat/humidity (although the sweating sucks b/c I like to be clean) it really was a waste this summer. Hardly any solid convective setups...that day with the enhanced risk into CT...followed by the ridiculous tornado watch then followed by the garbage warnings" was trash.

It will happen but the bite isn’t as big so onto late summer/early fall coc.

At some point as we move through September we'll start getting some shots of much cooler air (so long as the Arctic configuration doesn't change). But as long as warmer air gets pumped into west-central Canada we'll continue to see shots of well above-average temperatures. The questions becomes what dominates more and just based on the look of everything above-average will likely win out.

At some point we should start tapping into some tropical moisture too so we may have some wetter times ahead. I don't think the fall will be very dry.

  8. They key is going to be how southeastern Canada behaves but with that massive heat ridge in the west there is ample opportunity to break off pieces of heat and shoot them this way. Maybe we don't see 3...4...5+ days of heat in a row but there is still plenty of room to sneak in a day or two over the upcoming weeks.

1 or 2 90F degree days left in the tank and that is it for the 90's

I think we have room for another 3-5.

Between Friday and Tuesday we could pull of 3...things will have to work out but that possibility is there.

The big prolonged heat is pretty much done. Just ups and downs. I think first half of September will be quite warm, but that doesn't mean 90+ for days.

    I want a September derecho.

What is your drink of choice now?
It took me a while to really like it but a nice icy glass of bourbon helps but don’t get the cheap stuff.

In terms of alcohol I don't really drink it anymore. I really did get into IPA's the past several years and loved trying many different kinds but I think IPA's are just too heavy for me now. I always feel like crap after having one. It kinda sucks. My preference would probably be like a margarita or something mixed like that.

Lots of great brew out there as many here have already pointed out. I find the good stuff goes down better and I have better results the next morning. Never been a better time to be a beer drinker

I don't even drink beer anymore. Had one the other night (well barely one). Was probably the first in at least a few weeks.

I don't think anyone is denying more heat down the road. But when I think of broken I think of the relentlessness of the summer heat with days and weeks of no cold fropas. 2-3 hot days followed by 2-3 cools days, and repeat would be a back break to me. We'll see how it goes. We can definitely pull 2 week torches in early September, but the LR models are keeping a lot of cool air in Quebec so it wouldn't take much of a s/w to tap into that either via the front door or a backdoor. The BDL 90F record chance is taking a hit, but I never underestimate that pit.

I'm hoping this will at least lead to a few decent severe setups as we move into late August and early September. Kinda out of climo, but we have had some fairly decent events in the past during this time frame.

    enjoy your towering cumulus

I actually do enjoy those. I remember last year I was visiting a friend in NY with a few other friends...around Albany. We went for an evening walk and there were still some nice towering cumulus around. As I looked at them I got this tickling sensation in my body...always happens when I see them. There is just something visually appealing about them.

We pray for the NAM. Has a few things going for it. Gets pretty chilly at 500 with some decent MUCAPE.

That trough actually amplifies a bit nicely as it moves into New England...even GFS gets ~-15C 500 temps overnight. Should be some decent moisture convergence too. Shear not terrible so maybe some small hailers

"hell" is right - because I'm left heart broken again ... yeah, yeah go ahead -

but, she lives in the East Village above downtown San Francisco - and we've had a storied passed going back some 25 years.  It's complex and textured and ... hugely inappropriate for any social media setting patron by sagacity and patient insight ... Anyway, it didn't work out sufficed it is to say - and now...this ... won't. let. me. forget.  The holistic symbolism is torturous ... I just want a category 3.5 hurricane sitting over the outer Bahamas, with a Bahama Blue conveyor pattern pointed giving it no other choice - ..heh, kind of like my lost fight for her... Right at western Maine - but at this point, would settle for a f'n cumulonimbus cloud - anything other than ennui so stretched it challenges the very endurance of man.. forcing any lovelorn lover of natural science to beedie- eyed conviction right smack where she sits her fantastically shaped ass.

This is a sig worthy post.

This also may be my favorite post of all time.
