  1. Wouldn't be shocked to see something in the lower Hudson into SNE.
  2. There is also a difference between the visible smoke on satellite and the particulate matter that the air quality sensors are measuring. Those particles are pretty small and it may appear clear while still being poor air quality.
  3. I lived in Davenport for 2.5 years, so I believe there are worst places to be.
  4. Something started taking our seedlings a couple years ago, so I built chicken wire cages to go on top of my beds. I'm not even entirely convinced they were eating the plants either. It may have been squirrels digging up buried treasure and overturning my veggies.
  5. The one time it pays to be under the upper low.
  6. We can do gusty outflow just fine with marginal shear profiles. HRRR has been spitting out 50 knot gusts at times since yesterday.
  7. I believe the cause in Nova Scotia was human activity like @powderfreak described. The official reporting I've seen from Quebec is that most of the fire starts have been lightning (because there aren't any humans in some of these areas).
  8. MSS visibility under 2 miles in smoke. Impressive.
  9. Some gusty wind/small hailers for Wiz tomorrow? The RAP forecast soundings aren't the worst I've ever seen.
  10. First 18 of the year in the books. 2 birdies and still shot an 88.
  11. Birds got 'em last year, I built a cage. Frost takes them this year.
  12. @Damage In Tolland will be excited to hear that I switched to AC 3 weeks ago. Of course when I'm sleeping during the day on mids and the door is closed my room always sneaks up into the 73/74 degree range because we have so much southern exposure. But I shut all the other heat pumps off and switch mine to cooling.
  13. Yeah, it was a natural feature of my lawn after we built. It honestly wouldn't be my first choice, but it does keep everything green when the south part is baking. My neighbors think it's grass before they actually walk over.
  14. I'm not sure what where I'm from has to do with it. In no circumstance should the NWS being weighing in on the SoCal homeless situation. By all means, go off on your personal Twitter if it bothers you, but the NWS WFO feed is for weather information only. We're not even allowed to use the phrase Super Bowl, so opining on a side of a policy debate is absolutely a no go.
  15. You would be surprised how often somebody logs into personal and office and forgets which they are posting from. I also wish I could say this will result in a severe punishment for the person responsible, but that's pretty unlikely. Maybe some unpaid leave, but you have to really go above and beyond to get fired once you are past probation. Like use government car for personal use bad.
  16. That's when I would be aching for an 8 inch gauge. I built myself a coring tube from 4 inch PVC piping, but the 8 inch gauge can just hold more liquid for adding hot water for the melt.
  17. Must not have been a Coop report, because I only see one snow report for March 2001 (14" on the 6th) and missing for the rest. Could be part of the reason why the Coop closed.
  18. Probably a combination of proximity and elevation. Monadnocks are just closer to the mean low track, and even if we get one to tuck the elevation just doesn't ramp up as quickly in our immediate vicinity.
  19. Best we can manage with Coops at the time is near Fitzwilliam with 24" at 1200 ft or so. So somebody higher up probably got plastered.
