I've noticed the official forecasts are almost always a blend of models...verbatim pretty much. This is basically the going forecast.

Thanks to lake enhancement and small shifts nw, looking better and better for a 6-10" snow around here. Ground solidly covered with 6.5 inches. Finally starting to look like the UP.

Palm is still here, lurking, waiting for the dust to settle.

Model blend through first system and then the 10-day total. Shifted north a tad from yesterday.

Light but persistent lake snow the past few days. Haven't been measuring daily but there's 5 inches otg now. High of 19 today.

MQT: In total of 6 monthly and 57 daily temperature and precipitation records were broken or tied during 2023 at our office in Negaunee Twp where records date back to 1961. Five of the monthly records and 35 of the daily records were associated with temperatures warmer than previously observed. Only three of the 35 warm daily temperature records occurred during meteorological summer (Jun - Aug), which is consistent with global observations of nighttime and cool season temperatures warming more rapidly. Despite the warmth, Upper Michigan’s northern location resulted in 10 of the 19 precipitation records being associated with snowfall including the new May daily snowfall record of 19.8 inches!

Two new accounts today that post identical to Palm. Who could it ever be?

Mild 26 this morning with some flurries. Hi-res models paint as much as 4-6" in a narrow area of the high terrain from Herman right through my back yard late tonight/tomorrow. In an average winter by this point that would almost be a yawn but I'm excited.

Another day, another dense fog advisory. Businesses that rely on the snow, which is a huge chunk up here are really beginning to suffer... very odd not to see the sled traffic.

Reporting icy driveway conditions in the UP.

Fell asleep in front of the fire at 6 pm, woke up at 11 to go to bed, it was 46 with very dense fog. Woke up this morning to continued dense fog, rain showers (.18") and a temp of 38. Currently 42, with very dense fog. A few records broken yesterday at MQT in Negaunee. 3 temperature records were set at the Marquette NWS office yesterday, making this the all time warmest Christmas on record here: 1) a daily record high of 47 broke the previous record of 46 set in 1994; 2) a daily record warm low of 42 broke the previous record of 31 set in 2019; and 3) the warm low yesterday also broke the previous all time December warm low of 41 set on December 2, 1982. Records for the Marquette National Weather Service office date back to 1961.

Favorite! Looks pretty rough going forward. MQT: It's official, with no snow on the ground at 7 am EST, this is just the 4th brown Christmas on record at NWS Marquette (since 1961). The other years were 1994, 2006, and 2015. This is the first year on record that there has not even been a trace of snow on the ground. We aren't alone; much of the US is lacking a White Christmas this year. Snow depth is below normal nearly everywhere across the CONUS. Unfortunately for those hoping for a return to more normal winter weather, the 8-14 day and especially the 3-4 week projections from the Climate Prediction Center continue to favor above normal temperatures and below normal precipitation in the UP into mid-January.

A warm Christmas Eve in these parts.

In the 2015 there was under and inch and in '21 there was just a few, but no solid brown like this since I've lived here.

With the expected high today of 44, it certainly does. Comparing this year and last year Christmas Eve '23 - Christmas Day '22

A few nibbles and a couple small perch, nothing I kept. Up until 1998 Teal was the source of drinking water for Negaunee. It has remained a motorized free lake so not very popular for fishing in the non-winter months. There's some nice perch, walleye, and crappie. In the summer I fish the coves from my yak and have taken some nice bass. Woke up to 37 degrees, fog, with just patches of snow left. Hard to believe it's Christmas Eve.

Yes. I'm cautious and know the lake pretty well. In an average winter there's up to 30+ shanties out on the ice at any given time, and at this point last season I was driving my full-size chevy truck on it.

Low of only 33 overnight. Might be my last day on the lake for about a week. Ice is 4 inches but getting a little soupy. decent shot at some lake enhanced snow in about 5 days. 1.5” of snow left up at the house.
