Always appreciate your information. Sun is out now. Perhaps it will encourage some instability and add to those possible snow squalls? Maybe pick up a couple more inches this afternoon?

Sun out here too Matt, 2" OTG now ; was thinking the very same with instability. 2 more inches for a total of 4 'll be happy

My Liberty NY house got 2 inches

My long Island House got 4 inches

BGM is now discussing the lake enhancement (or ocean enhancement?) I've been alluding to. @sferic@Syrmax

The low pressure system off the coast moves to the e/ne quickly
on Friday morning and the synoptic snow should end west to
east. However, behind the departing system another punch of cold
Canadian air will drop south through the region and bring with
it more lake effect snow showers into central NY. There could be
significant snowfall accumulations with this lake event as the
moisture from the coastal low wraps around the back side and
aids in the available moisture for LES. This cold air mass will
keep temperatures on Friday in the 20s for much of the region.

Yes, you educated me about this awhile back !

I do like to research. If you're interested...not sure how much you actually want to know, here's a link about the soils of the area. Soil Survey of Onondaga County, New York (usda.gov)

I would say if it the top layer of ground is not frozen, chances are it will be softer or mushier around here in the winter. This is usually because it's either rained or all the snow has melted into the ground and water is sitting there. Since sand is not the predominant soil type (water permeates very quickly through it), water is more often found in the topsoil around here. The Syracuse area in general has lots of wetlands, which is a good sign that many areas do not have well drained soils. It's a part of the natural ecosystem.

    Quite interested!

Rain to dry slot to mix to downsloping to scattered NW wind lake effect snow showers to snow melt 24 hours later = dusting to 1 inch snowfall = Syracuse new snowfall normals

Not what a new Northern Onondaga County resident wants to hear after finally making it up here !

Whatever the final tally is up here by April it's destined to be more than NYC's Central Park has ever had in a season which was around 76 inches in 1995-1996

I'm not expecting 130" + so anything 75 inches or higher will be more than I have seen in nearly 25 years on Long island/NYC

  5. Now mainly living in Cicero I see first hand how quickly things can change and how fast a WWA can be hoisted and accumulating snow lines are difficult to nail down unlike Long Island.

Next 2 weeks look promising here as i have canceled Catskill/ Long Island business until I get a good taste of Cicero weather

Cameras setup now for timelapse and weather underground gave my PWS a badge for accurate data
