Just give me a fresh inch in Northern Onondaga in the next 36-48 and I'll accept that, anything but nothing
We're in a lull, sure but things can change big time as we are only through the first third of winter

Was a nice positive bust, everywhere around here got at least 6-8”
My cameras showed me, even my long island home did well too last week.
Trust me, Sullivan County due for 2 feet and Onondaga nada, I'd be in SC in a flash

38F here. KSYZZLE also at 38F. The airport seems to track more closely with surrounding reports when it's windy and/or large scale temp advection is occurring. Just my general ob.
I think i saw a stray flake and clouds look dark to my north where radar shows some returns attm, but dry otherwise. We shouldn't see much if any melt today, maybe some compaction with limited duration warmup and overcast conditions. Thinking 2-3" overnight.
Hopefully something similar 8 miles to your east in Cicero

@crossbowftw3 btw, Liberty has more snow OTG than here where I am now in Cicero ( around 8-10 miles north of Syracuse)

Negative Nathan posts aside... Positive Pete post says the NWS offices look to be forecasting 3 to 6 inches tonight for those of us SE and ESE of Lake Ontario. Hopefully we can get a nice surprise. Rgem (Yay!) and HRRR look good for it.
Hopefully Lysander, Clay and Cicero cash in

Just like the last two. Can you believe, last year was even worse?! Going to need LOTS to make up for it if we're going to get anywhere close to normal.
Maybe 100 inches from February 1st to March 15th would do it; at least one could hope

00z GFS intriguing IMHO
I love longshots that become realistic looking; that's part of all the fun of Meteorology

Strongly Agree. Living in SE CT from 1984 to 2000 it was hard to buy a snowstorm without "issues". And the # of times the coastal front showed up to rocket us into the 40's or low 50s while 30 miles inland got pounded with snow were too many to mention. 1995/96 was the only really good winter in that stretch. Hell i had 5" of gruel & dryslot for the Storm O' Century in 1993 while west of the CT River got 18"+. Of course, since i left they get a Blizzard annually it seems.
A few years ago who could forget Boston's snow piles lasting into summer
1993 March Blizzard 10 inches on LI then a solid freeze afterwards
Agree with 1995-1996 NYC recorded I think their snowiest winter with around 75"
2010's on LI in some years were not too bad either

Yeah, I just don't see the northern stream allowing anything to move far enough north for us. If it does allow it, warm air seems to invade and our awful location gets skunked by low elevation, Great Lake warmth, Atlantic warmth (this past storm..lol), downsloping, etc... it's like we have to look at it and think, "What could go wrong?"
Sorry, guys...I'm done. Discouraged and irritated with the high expectations I had of moving to Syracuse and the winters have sucked.
I'd love to have actual meteorological discussion about it, but there really isn't anything else to discuss about it other than "bad luck" in terms of synoptic snowstorms. Perhaps it is rare to have a snowstorm here that isn't affected by warm slots, dry slots, downsloping, shear, elevation, etc.. Apparently, it used to be "the place to be" for snowstorms.
Coming from Long Island mainly it seems ANY winter here is better than ANY of Long Island's best winters ever

I wish I had two other locations I could go to based on the forecast.
It's 280 miles from Cicero to my LI home
It's 165 miles from Cicero to my Liberty NY home

12 inches "might" be pushing it...lake effect is so tricky. If we just get showery stuff, that will be hard to meet. If some banding sets up, there could be 4 additional inches to get there.
I love the good side of unexpected weather like tonight.
When my wife and I decided to buy upstate I was thinking around BGM, but then i did some research and realized this was the place to be.
If I had it to do over , I would have moved up here early on in my teaching career
But as you know I have two other locations I can go to on a dime if weather dictates

Yes. As the system moves away, winds are expected to turn more WNW, which is the best trajectory for Northern Onondaga county. Look at the radar, and you can already see those snow showers by Rochester turning on a more WNW flow.
I see that
I guess it's in the realm we could hit 12" when all is said and done
Not too shabby

You're most welcome. I am glad you're with us now! Looking at the radar, it looks like lake effect is kicking in to the west of Rochester.
Switched radars, you are right!
Could that trajectory be Onondaga friendly?

That was still the Lake Enhanced Synoptic Band. Lake effect should kick in overnight, but probably won't be as heavy as this band was.
Thank you again Matt for the education unique to this area which you are sharing.

It's been pouring snow here for the past two hours. 1 to 2 inch per hour rates. Making up for last night quickly. This is the "Winter Storm Warning" event. Between 8 and 9 inches for this event since last night. Hoping to make it to those double digits!
Not bad here too in Cicero, definitely 2x what last night was.
LES band is shrinking so maybe we'll eek out another inch but I'm happy with it

Thoughts about a possible N'oreaster next Saturday ?

I'm thinking we could tack on 6 inches. How about you guys?
Hope that 6 verifies, would love it here in Cicero; but as you alluded to, you are more in the path of the LES than I am

Nice steady moderate snow in Cicero; if this keeps up for 12 hours I'll get my 2-4 and not complain

3ish inches of white vomit. Sleet, downsloping, and oh, the temperature popped above freezing at the SYR airport.
The new winter in what has become the most ridiculous upstate city for "winter" weather.
The winds last night with sleet against the windows was something I have never experienced before
Maybe 2ish inches here last night
Matt, do you think Onondaga cashes in with at least 2-4 later today and tonight with LES?

I'd say here in Cicero, a trace all day, if that.
In the last few moments somewhat better mood flakes
