  1. 50 currently downtown. LOL. blew past the projected high of 46. Typical DC winter M.O. now... watch it cloud over just in time for sunset and then watch for the 1 degree drop every 4 hours. Will see what wet bulbs are with the low later with the low dews. But it's always just so warm in the immediate metro.
  2. 42 right now and never dropped below 40 last night. Yes, dewpoints look great, but in the immediate metro we always lose something because of balmy temps and a period of white rain.
  3. Exactly the same amount the PHL officially recorded. go figure.
  4. DCA needs 2.1 inches to hit double digits for the season. Maybe not an unreasonable down and distance for this event.
  5. Would love to somehow extend this into the evening. The difficulty to accumulate especially on paved surfaces in mid-day is real. Even with cold ground and decent rates. But certainly can't complain. Another overperformer.
  6. Steady light/mod snow at the V.A. on North Capitol and Michigan ave. Streets just wet- I guess between traffic, treatments, and heading to midday would need to be much heavier. But still real nice out!
  7. Here at the VA at North Cap and Michigan Ave as well. Small flakes but decent clip.
  8. Euro would get DCA to its historical average snow for January. Also been 72+ hours straight now at or below freezing. Considering last January low temps hit 35 at 11pm and never budged all night and the obvious lack of snow it's been a pretty nice week. Even better if the 1-2 tomorrow verifies.
  9. Yeah, combo of rates and temp and flake type as well. 3/9/99 was an entirely daytime event and accumulated 8 inches in DC proper b/c it was ripping fatties all day long. 3/5/15 to a lesser extent as well. But tiny flakes with light rates will even have issues in midday in January. At least this week the snowcover and cold should help going in. How this potentially juices up to be something beyond a light event I'll defer to the smart kids here.
  10. As we just learned, even with great temps and January , light rates in daytime don't add up to much.
  11. Was just driving in Wheaton area. Georgia ave mostly wet. Univ Blvd covered and not in good shape, but Arcola mostly wet. Go figure. Probably treatment related. Temp of 28. Rates aren't bad, but not ideal either. Either way need better flakes. Then need the Eagles to get NAM'd later by Tampa.
  12. Besides the bonus snow, maybe even though this isn't sticking it has helped to wash some of the road treatments off and also prevented the usual DCA spike to 42 before a storm.
  13. On a side street that isn't treated, but rates and flake size aren't great... for now.
  14. Steady light snow in Wheaton, but despite a good temp of 27 and mid-January, not sticking but it's high noon and tiny flakes.
  15. Caps PP is the ICON. Always shows the same thing and always sucks.
  16. 11/11/87 2/25/07 (was more cooling the column than the surface) though I could be wrong about this one.
  17. Yup. It’s always something and usually temps. Everyone says don’t sweat temps but that’s exactly what the problem is. This would be really nice otherwise.
  18. Actually really coming down now by the VA on North Capitol. Great flakes and rates but not sticking since it’s about 87 degrees. Beautiful but at the time kind of a waste. Hopefully things cool off and this keeps up as we head towards dark.
  19. 40 with light snow in the city. Where exactly is the arctic front? With only 3 plus hours till sundown if the front actually does come through and precip hangs around we eke something out.
  20. 39 in the city. Not a freakoutovet the temp, but just interesting that DC never has trouble busting high. Just not a day to waste even a little qpf on white rain. Oh well. Maybe Bob Ryan can tell us what the Humature is today?
  21. We can always be counted on to overperform on heat. Even in January with. HECS just miles away.
  22. LOL. Barely cloudy- would call it partly cloudy at the VA in DC (North Capitol/Michigan.) 33. May need to the run the AC today when we torch inside the city. White rain today might even be wishful thinking at least through the afternoon hours.
  23. It always seems that thin clouds at night always prevent cooling but we warm no problem even with complete overcast.
  24. Was supposed to be in upper 20s overnight. Never got below 31. Already at 32. Have to wonder how much of out pity QPF we waste on white rain. Meanwhile the rest of the east coast gives us the middle finger with a HECS. Out winters are like our football team… baseline is crap and even worse without blocking.
