  1. Seems like this has been a crazy winter for most, whether it be cold rain, blizzards, "heat waves," or extreme cold. Maybe some crazy snow in the Southeast in March or April is not out of the question.
  2. Just got the WWA for Gaston, Mecklenburg, Rowan and several SC Counties. Winter Weather Advisory URGENT - WINTER WEATHER MESSAGE National Weather Service Greenville-Spartanburg SC 230 PM EST Fri Jan 21 2022 NCZ057-070-071-SCZ009-012-013-019-220400- /O.EXA.KGSP.WW.Y.0003.000000T0000Z-220122T1200Z/ Rowan-Gaston-Mecklenburg-York-Laurens-Union SC-Greenwood- Including the cities of Salisbury, Gastonia, Charlotte, Catawba, Rock Hill, Laurens, Clinton, Union, Monarch Mills, Ware Shoals, and Ninety Six 230 PM EST Fri Jan 21 2022 ...WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY IN EFFECT UNTIL 7 AM EST SATURDAY... * WHAT...Snow. 3. Wind and sleet now starting to pick up here in South Gastonia, NC.
  4. My daughter lives near Travelers Rest SC. She has what looks like all snow and (a guess here, based on the pics she sent me) about 6-8 inches. 26 degrees.
  5. 25 degrees here in South Gastonia NC with sleet. About 2 1/2 inches of frozen precip on average, measured in several places.
  6. I know we have other maps to consider -- sleet and ice. But, yeah, I'm amazed at that gradient. Just a slight jog of 30 miles by the storm, northwest or southeast, could be the difference between more icing and more snow. The next 48-72 hours will be wicked exciting to watch!
  7. Last report from here before I go to bed. Still ice pellets here, enough to whiten the grass. No snow. Congrats to those who got to see some of the white stuff!
  8. It's still sleet or ice pellets here in Crowders. Barely perceptible, visually, but I can hear them falling.
  9. That's about 2 miles west of me as the crow flies. Sleet's getting louder now.
  10. And no sooner as I post that, I hear the sleet hitting the ground and I see a handful of snowflakes falling. It's almost here!
  11. I'm keeping an eye out here in Crowders, NC, about 6 miles south of Downtown Gastonia. So far, still a cold rain.
  12. Brad Panovich just posted on Facebook that today marks the average first date of measurable snowfall for Charlotte. There's something to hang your hat on!
  13. Something of note to add: Last night in one of his live Facebook posts, Brad Panovich noted that the positions of the last few storms have brought cooler/colder air further south and that trend with the next few storms in the long term seems to be continuing that southward progression. He seemed optimistic that the frequency of the storms coming through could give us a better chance of that cold air and precipitation meeting in the area. He was also optimistic when he said "winter is not over, folks." Makes me wonder with all the crazy weather going on if we'll see that "meeting" sometime in the late-February/early-March timeframe.
  14. So far it's pretty much a bust here, one mile south of the Charlotte-Monroe Executive Airport. Just a cold, moderate rain falling. App says freezing rain, but I don't see any ice sticking to trees. I guess with the Winter Storm Warning still in effect for another 27+ hours, anything is still possible. But I'm not holding out much hope for it to turn white here. Looks like the best (worst?) we'll get is icy conditions at this point.
  15. You're right! Sorry. Here you go! (My daughter Emma and me about a month ago.)
