  1. Had a nice snow shower move through downtown AVL. Good sized flakes but too warm to stick
  2. Euro dropped a big snow on WNC mountains next Friday..
  3. Theres a bit of a southwesterly orientation of the flow looking at radar and I can smell the paper mill in downtown Asheville.
  4. Already almost 50 in Marion maybe you guys can get some convective snow showers
  5. It will be an interesting day tomorrow in Asheville. NWS calls for some rain in the valley with a high in the 40s.
  6. It's a lot warmer than i expected even in Asheville its not that bad. Mid 40's when they forecasted 30's. Looks like there was a good dusting here but it was pretty much gone by 8 a.m. I expect similar amounts tomorrow here
  7. Shouldn't giving the winter a grade..1. Wait until April and 2. Have it's own thread?
  8. And this https://www.weather.gov/jkl/198704_snowstorm
  9. Best I could come up with http://climate.ncsu.edu/climate/winter/event_details?e=117
  10. Looks like we will be following severe weather soon
  11. Of course as soon as i post this the Euro looks less impressive and doesn't dig the trough as deep..
  12. No doubt. I once had car trouble on the way back from a job interview in Wilmington and was broke down in Lumberton. The people there were nice and helpful albeit a little rough around the edges. There are fine people all across NC.
  13. Really the whole 74 corridor from Wadesboro to Lumberton up to Fayetteville is probably lowest on the list of NC places to live due to high poverty levels, crime rates, and overall lack of things to do
  14. I think the setup for later next week is the best of the season for NWFS. The orientation of the moisture looks good and with the ,low bombing out near the northeast it could be a good one... The GFS looks juicy
  15. As I expected, very few places had over 4 inches of snow
  16. Who has 4 inches in the triangle? I havent seen any reports more than 2. I will wait to see complete snow maps once the storm is finished.
  17. I have talked to different folks in the triad, New Bern and Greenville and they are all below expectations. It's too early for a post mortem but I think this storm deserves some studying
  18. It appears this storm will bust low for just about everyone. Places modeled to get 3 to 6 inches in eastern NC are getting half of that at best. Places like Norfolk and VA Beach barely have anything due to Easterly winds off of the ocean. Areas just east of the Blue Ridge got a dusting to an inch and even Asheville and Hendersonville had an inch or less when almost all modeling had them at 2 to 4 inches. I'm curious as to precip amounts for these areas when all is said and done. Obviously lack of heavy precip hurt many NC areas but toasty boundary level temperatures were equally troublesome. The storm also seemed to be a bit weaker and further south than progged.
  19. My forecast turned out ok but I missed out for Rainforrest and was a bit high in some other areas. I thought I was conservative but not enough. Each storm is a learning experience..
  20. I'm out driving around and we have some light rain and drizzle in parts of McDowell.. Its going to be a skating rink later if the wind doesn't pick up
  21. I don't lol but glad some got their best snow of the season. We had more back in January. Looks like a possible robust NWFS later next week followed by a cold blast and possible piece of energy diving down with the trough. Interesting times ahead
  22. Hope y'all in the eastern part of the state do well. It was a big bust for pretty much all of western NC. Even high elevations didnt get much more than a couple inches max.
