I've posted this before but there's clearly some additional opportunity cost in targeted interventions to get us through the winter to more widespread vaccine use. Got to pass some stimulus and make people whole who are financially hurting though.

Were about 23 days from 2000/deaths per day on average. Deaths have been in exponential growth for about 1 month or so.

Seems like there should be so governments tax payers, and businesses don't have to choose between sickness and death or financial ruin.

I wouldn't. In fact I think they will. Transmission peaked on June 20th for the summer wave. Deaths, hospitalizations, and icu numbers basicallu doubled from that time until late July. We could stop transmission now and we would still go to 150k hospitalizations and over 2000 deaths per day in December.

I think nearly all of the additional transmission this fall can be attributed to decreasing humidity. The measures that kept R near 1 during much of the summer don't do that now. Theres been little difference in mobility or in mask use over the past month. If we want to reduce transmission, there needs to be more done now than in the summer. Not an expert on significance but 11 vs zero seems like it would be statistically significant. I appreciated that this press release was a bit more thorough than the Pfizer one...perhaps because the NIH is partially funding it.

Theres a whole panel of independent scientists that will review all the study data and will be recommending to the FDA whether the vaccine should get an emergency use authorization. Approval is not given based on the required company press release.

I had the flu shot a few weeks back and didn't get any side effects.

The choice isn't vaccination or nothing. Its vaccination or covid. We know covid kills. We know covid is debilitating. It's a pretty simple choice and risk assessment...after this going through the approval process.

These are typical side effects of any vaccination. Its the body's inflammatory response. All the moderna side effects in that press release were found in under 10 percent of people and seemed fairly mild. Pain at the injection site, fatigue, headache etc.

That is true. But this vaccine candidate wasn't rushed nor was its R and D funded by the government. The FDA has been better about pushing back against Trump the past month or two after some the early HCQ stuff and maintaining scientific integrity. There's going to be an independent panel of experts that's going to be convening and reviewing the data over the next month or two that will make a recommendation to the FDA for the EUA. I don't see why NYS would need to do any additional review of the vaccine. It's not Trump's vaccine, it's Pfizer/BioNTech's vaccine.
