Agreed. If that Jan. 25 thing was half the QPF but all snow, it would have been 10 times better IMO

The last 10 years or so make you wonder if there's been a change where good snows are south and east from coastal scrapers or way north and west, leaving a hole in the central part of the region. When I grew up east of DC, the N&W burbs were king. I moved to Germantown in '94 and we cashed in a lot in the 90s and 2000s. A good example was Dec. 5, 2003, when we got 8" right at freezing and DC was all rain. That would be rain here now. The N&W burbs have lost their edge.

I'm estimating about 5" near Germantown, which correlates with reports from around me. Decent storm with grass fully covered and trees coated. I wish so many others in the area didn't get left out

We had an 8" snow in Germantown on Dec. 5, 2003 with temps right at freezing, and when I got off the MARC in DC it was all rain. That same storm today would be rain in Germantown. Anywho, mod snow with 2" just NE of Germantown and 32 degrees

Mom has heavy snow with huge cotton balls a few miles south of Dunkirk. Still just a light rain/snow mix in Germantown, hoping to win the IVT lottery later

That reminds me of (I think) 2006 where we had off and on snizzle all day and were thinking bust, then rates picked up right at sunset and we got heavy, wet snow for several hours. Hoping for that tonight!

I drove to the Catoctins once in a marginal event where Germantown only had a slushy coating and I saw 6" and cotton ball sized flakes there. I only drove 33 miles. Can't wait to hear your obs Light rain, 37

It looks more like the traditional better N&W of the Fall Line due to quicker changeover. Light rain and 37

I was in DC and rode the MARC home at the start of that -- it was snow despite upper 30s at the surface. No rain even in DC because the upper levels were so good. It seemed to snow for hours before even starting to stick though, and the first 3-4 inches that did stick were mashed potatoes

This winter reminds me of 1977 when I was an elementary school kid. Long stretch of deep cold and ice-encrusted snow cover, but rather poor on the total snowfall amount.

I have to call it disappointing with only about 10 inches of snow total despite so much cold. It could have been so much better if not for that damn warm nose on Jan 25. Now on seven straight winters of way below normal snow and 11 years since a big (12-inch plus) storm. Terrible.

My nephew lives in Roseville, to the NE of Sacramento. One time he and his wife drove a couple hours to Tahoe to see 4-5 feet of snow on the ground, then drove home to 50s and sun. Man, CA makes me jealous

It's been a rough stretch. If we're done, I got about 10" total this winter and last winter and haven't hit average since 2019. Also have not seen a big (12-inch plus) snow since 2016. The longest gap before that was 6 years going back to 1979

That was it for me. I know some get excited over long-lasting snowpack, but I am a snowfall bottom line guy. We got 2" qpf with temps in the teens and got 6.5" snow out of it. Meanwhile places like Pensacola, FL and Morehead City, NC got 10" and 16" clean snows the last two years

I had no idea sunny and 40 could feel so warm! It's gonna take a long time for this ice/snowpack to melt

You're in a good spot up there - South Mtn just to your east should help squeeze more out! Cloudy and 20 here
