SLK been under 1sm mile in snow this morning.

The Lookout plot (on remote cam) with a half inch of slush. This plot can be a bit less than the Gondi side at the same elevation… but nice to see the pace of wet snow is outpacing the melt rate.

That was a weird post by Maue. Like nothing about that snow map looks better than a bad Dec/Jan. That looks exactly what a ratter Dec/Jan looks like, ha.

The tram is the giveaway... only mountain in VT with one.

I bet it’s snow up top. Snow level here is like 3,200ft. Im down in the base again and you can still see that distinct visibility change above the snow line where it goes from clearer to milky white above. Are you there tomorrow? I think you could get smoked for a time at 1900ft. BTV has snow mixing to valley floors. 925mb temps -1C to -2C in steady precip on GFS/NAM could get it down low tomorrow.

Started as nice snow up here at 3,600ft.

He posted a few days ago as soon as the NNE winter thread was created and chatted snow. He’s around.

Today’s wind across the region seemed to be a surprise. I’m sure the signals may have become present as it developed, but this was a fairly widespread synoptic wind event (especially by acreage covered in impacts, tree issues, power outages, etc).

It was a nice, chilly evening. Blustery. Foliage has moved solidly to stick season up high.

Ha at 7am it was. Sunny now but actually colder than it was then.

The damage to that large tent is wild. Even saw a street sign on RT 108 pushed to like a 45 degree angle. Fences blown down. Might’ve gusted 60+ at some point on the NW downslope off Mansfield into town.

This had 1,000+ people at it yesterday and was expecting to see 5,000 visitors this weekend. If that came down at full occupancy it would’ve been real bad.

Major Fall Festival in Stowe had total collapse of massive tent in the wind overnight. It looks rough.

Wtf happened last night. Wind came out of no where and it got real warm. Temps rose to 63F at 4am (normal min 37F) and winds gusting 40-50mph. Leaves are gone, ha. 46F at 8:30pm, then 63F at 4am in some crazy wind.

I trust the averages, even in this rapidly evolving climate. You are going to get some decent snowstorms at some point. Statistically you can’t continue like this. Just like you wouldn’t expect that 2000s decadal run to continue, cumulating with 2015. There’s reason to be optimistic for snow.

Those numbers fit with the overall thermal trends over the past several years. Climate change is a loaded phrase, I’m not trying to make a political statement when I mention warmth. I think scientifically it’s interesting to see the current decadal trends. Our snowfall is going to be there; a +4 is still cold enough to snow in the winter. In fact, a lack of cool/dry air masses likely increase cold season precip… but the retention is a metric that takes a hit by a higher mean temperature. The higher elevations will be less prone to this change, the elevations that are still spending the longest time below 0C throughout the season. -13C or -3C… it’s below freezing. Down low it can be tougher to sustain a deep pack.

Yeah it’s the same up here. Everyone shows up this weekend and it’s always past peak. Every year.

It’s 100% past peak on Mansfield so I’d expect the same in the Whites. Its peak in the 500-1800ft range here locally.

GFS and GGEM both look fairly similar for the usual upslope prone mountain terrain. Pittsburgh, NH jacks?

Some of these runs have a pretty potent upslope look. I know that gets everyone jazzed too.

Yeah that’s why some of us are like wow this is impressive. It’s recalculating upward and still struggling to get to that normal. Its not doom and gloom, it’s just something that’s happening and when weather is boring, that’s what we have… temp talk lol.

Very bummed we are clouded over. Stable OVC039 to OVC043 obs from the upslope trapped stratus.

Still way to cloudy up here to view the Northern Lights. Should be a banger tonight for some areas. Breezy upslope flow though keeping us socked unfortunately. Was still getting some drizzle an hour ago. Rare very low diurnal temp swing today for us... low of 44F and max of 48F.
