  1. Haha, yeah I just don’t see a hunter hiking all the up and in there to then have to carry a moose 1,500 vertical feet over variable terrain without any motorized assistance. But then again I’m not a hunter so I have no idea... but that sounds like one hell of a sufferfest. I’d think if you have a permit for a moose, there are far easier hunts in the NEK where you can just wait in a field off a road or ATV zone for one to walk by.
  2. Agreed. I'm really going to miss the evening hikes and just getting outside a lot with the impending darkness. Once it hits a certain point I start going into the gym again after work for exercise instead of up a mountain. Inside is a different animal in COVID world but we'll make due. I just looked at some photos from past years, and it is crazy that in exactly one month we'll be seeing some legit pockets of autumn color up here on the mountains... like that moderate color stage.
  3. It's always funny to notice the small early changes... and then it takes 6 weeks to get to peak. Though in a month (late-Sept) it should be well on it's way. Crazy how the summer is almost done. Flew by.
  4. I've been noticing a very subtle shift in the foliage towards that late summer tired green, but now seeing some yellowing on some crowns. Very subtle and early, but it's not the uniform deep green anymore. This is most pronounced in the 1500-2000ft elevation band for some reason. This photo covers about that elevation range, with that dirt work road cutting through upper right side is at 1,800ft.
  5. We have a wall unit but if I had window A/C units up here I would've pulled them out this past week to just allow the windows to be open and free. No way am I leaving my windows all jammed up with A/Cs for the threat of needing them on a random day or two when the majority of the time you can just let the breeze in. They look horrible too, not worth it for a random day or two in the NNE climo now.
  6. That’s terrible. What a thing to have hanging over your wedding day. Obviously everyone made their own decision to attend your wedding but to know it ended up killing one of your guests shortly after... that couple will carry that for a while.
  7. Lined this drink up pretty good. Narrow, training band but it’s been raining for a good time now.
  8. 6th straight day with a high temp in the 70s (77F today) and lows in the 40s/50s. I feel like I remember some discussion a while back about how this week would be filled with 70s/50s for some.
  9. Thanks, I took the 200mm lens up in case I ran into him. He's been seen by a ton of folks lately so I figured I'd have a second chance at photographing him at some point.
  10. A couple showers today, only 0.13" in the bucket though.
  11. True. Though I've never seen hunters at the ski resort in over 15 years there. It would be one hell of an extraction from 3,000ft with no public vehicle access anywhere close. Is there any elevation limit to hunting? I know with a lot of things the state gets much tighter with regs up high. I think it would be an extreme stretch to see someone hunting up in that area, especially after reading this weather forum, but I'll edit it I guess, ha.
  12. Ran into this young bull moose for a second time in the past few weeks up on Spruce Peak. Still looking very healthy and his young antlers are getting longer... no tick issues noted (appeared to be thorns or burrs from laying down on his backside). I know where he's bedding down and he was grazing very close to that spot. He's got a large area of grass and ferns all packed out and flattened near the bottom of a ski trail.
  13. Sounds like working for an American company. At some level in most companies there’s a line between the haves and have nots. Day laborers and front line staff usually vs/against the corporate office, management or salaried folks.
  14. Yeah they did. There’s a good half hour of 90F obs on the 5-min data. Hit 90/52 for 28% RH at one point. Edit: Actually it was 90F for most 5-min obs from 2-2:50pm.
  15. That sounds like a reasonable conversion, lower temps 2F and raise dews by 10-12F.
  16. But that’s the thing, she’ll get the increase and a promotion while the laborers making the company dollars will get an extra 8 hours of PTO, so they can now take off 4 days next year (yay!). Also maybe a nice email from the CEO thanking them for their hard work during a challenging year.
  17. Someone made up their mind a week ago that this was going to be a very impressive, possibly record breaking heater coming up next week... I’m not even sure why we are still running the models daily. It’s set in stone.
  18. You can even hear the ticks shouting like hot dog vendors at a baseballball game... “Lyme here...getcha Lyme herrre.”
  19. True, probably the best of both worlds as it is. Can quote the backyard under-the-forest-canopy dews with the BDL temperature for maximum hype/effect.
  20. Just think how much hotter the summer could be without the trees.
  21. Ha, BTV has its first back-to-back below normal days since June 14-15th. Pretty good run there between consecutive BN days. But as discussed, things have changed from mid-summer’s relentless heat.
