  1. The heated walkways are fired up in some sections again... I’m with Will on hating it. But creates some funny scenes like this. The warm ground argument works when the pavers are heated lol. Deep winter in other areas.
  2. Yeah that’s a good upslope storm for 750ft for sure. Nice to start with ~10” total between the two systems. This is one of those ones where I’m torn... 10” from the break and measuring it with two different events... or just the 8.5” that’s on the ground at the end.
  3. Yeah we did well for sure. Driving around this was a legit little storm. Looks to be 12” or a bit more at 1500ft on the ground. Plows definitely caught off-guard for some reason. Every lot in town has 8” ruts in it lol.
  4. 8.5” on the ground. I had 4” first and then my car had another 6” this morning. Around 10” total between the two distinct rounds. Cars are round 2 accumulation, hedgerow sporting event total.
  5. 9”... fits with the 5.5” on the car since we got home.
  6. Temps in the mid-20s too? This is mid-winter stuff.
  7. It is ripping snow. Almost 8” on the ground. Easily 1”/hr. This is a great opening event.
  8. Flow is 1.0< or unblocked this evening based on the lower level radar. Snow is more from the spine and eastward. Mountain peaks block the signal in spots. Beam rise as it goes east means it's sampling higher up and deeper in the atmosphere, some further downstream drift at the ends of the radar image.
  9. I mean, it is snowing very hard right now. Downstream drift or it's just snowing that much harder up at the mountain? Could be a mixture of both. Hopefully we can rake for a while this evening.
  10. Good pulse of moisture moving through the mountains. I love seeing the Adirondack echoes increase. It's no SNE coastal storm but a fun event to start the season.
  11. It's snowing pretty good when the wind doesn't blow. Just ripping big fluffy dendrites. This stuff has some loft to it until the wind packs it out a bit. We'll see what round two brings to the area. Models still look good.
  12. Good grief that escalates quickly. Round two firing up. Right over the Spine, but some downwind drift too. A steady light snow just started up again here, good flake size. Crazy that it's actually even a very slight WSW wind flow in the lower levels ahead of the low. You can see on the radar that upslope band sort of is also ever so slightly NNW to SSE.
  13. Was out and about running errands this evening. There’s like less than an inch in Morrisville... I was shocked, not much at all. Back at home I’m finding around 4” in the yard. Dog is happy!
  14. Funny you say that, I’ve got a new employee from Maryland and we were just walking past this scene and his comment was “Last night someone at a gas station said something about we might get a little snow. Where I’m from this would’ve been talked about for a week straight and school would’ve been cancelled two days in advanced. This would’ve been a really big deal.”
  15. That looks pretty good TBH. Really hard to say with the drifting. The Jay base area is a notoriously terrible spot to try to get a real number at, lol. Always 0-12" (except when it's 0-24"). I bet it's pretty uniform 3-6" up and down the Spine. I do think Waterbury looked to get the best of it on radar and friends have estimated similar to J.Spin of a 5-7" snowfall even at very low elevation.
  16. LOL you're about to have your mind blown this winter if 1.5-2" exceeds expectations. It has to be so weird to go from MD climate to this.
  17. Round 1 definitely wrapping up. Visibility greatly improved here at the mountain and I see the ASOS down valley is up to 4 mile vis too. Best I can do is 5.5" here at 1,500ft. Really becoming impossible to tell for sure with the wind. Looking at the ski trails they look quite wind scoured.
  18. Damn, 7" on the ground. Nice work. The wind is capping us around the 5" mark up here at the mountain as far as I can see. It keeps snowing but it's not getting any deeper, just going sideways. Even still that 0.37" water amount is more than models had for this first round this morning.
  19. Ha yeah the wind at 1,500ft in these events is crazy. I have no doubt its better blizzard conditions than anything you'll see in MD. Just goes straight whiteout at times in 40mph gusts.
  20. 12z GFS puts 1.0" QPF over J.Spin's head. It has quite a burst tonight.
  21. My wife isn’t going to win any photo awards but she said 3-4” at home. I made her go measure what’s on her car and that’s as precise as she wanted to be lol. I think first round is mostly done... it’s starting to dry up on radar right on cue. Looked like a 6a-12pm deal... next round starts this evening. Hopefully we can double this up tonight.
  22. I was thinking about your posts when I said that. Much better vibe when they are off. But can’t have Pickle’s cougar slip in her fur boots leaving the hotel in January.
  23. Yeah these events are pretty stable once the models figure it out. Not much changes as opposed to like a coastal storm or synoptic events. We’ll see what tonight brings, I think we can do double digits at 1500ft.
  24. Getting consistent 5” measurements around the base area at 1500ft. It’s so windy though it’s like 0-10” outside this plaza. The heated sidewalks aren’t turned on yet!! Ha. Not bad for round 1... tonight’s round looks like it has twice the water.
  25. Ha, that’s awesome. About what I’d expect without any wind. You’ll get a foot from this event.
