  1. Yeah, wild place at 6,000ft. It's just so high up there. The crazy thing is the difference in weather between 3Kft and MWN summit is the same as it is from sea level to 3Kft (which is huge). Up at 4,000ft had a half inch to an inch of very sloppy wet paste this morning on Mansfield at like 33F. A thousand feet lower at 3,000ft a bunch of white rain with just a trace/clumpy coating on the board from this event so far on the webcam.
  2. Damn, over 2" of clear ice on Mount Washington. Check out the ice depth on the front of this snowcat they posted.
  3. Another 0.36” in the Stratus today with -RN. Just soaked.
  4. Snowed last night on the summit
  5. Yeah there are the ones you can see that are like ok, you just yanked the saturation slider all the way to the side. I typically don’t use saturation, often my edits are like Eric stated, mostly to do with lighting. Usually the color is there to begin with, it’s just the lighting that can use some tweaking. I mean shooting photos in NVT in winter with clouds and snow, it can look like the inside of a paper bag type darkness and I need shutter speeds to capture fast movement of skiers/riders. Most of my edit is brightening.
  6. Yeah, you just want people to say "my photo of XYZ"... not "This is what Joe Public saw of XYZ with the naked eye" like it's a science project. I mean anyone who has ever picked up a National Geographic mag or watched Planet Earth etc and thinks they are just scenes the naked eye sees are lying to themselves, ha. Most of it also comes down to FOMO...fear of missing out. Did I miss that beautiful display? Or would I not have seen it that way? If not, then I don't feel like I missed anything. If yes, then damn I wish I saw that, ha.
  7. Isn’t that what it is though? I have no problems with the time lapses… I mean look up at the sky at night and it doesn’t look like the starry photos with Milky Way exploding overhead like a good nighttime lapse shows…. Or extended fireworks time lapse, etc. I guess I’ve always thought of photography as trying to elicit an emotional response, like all art tries. No one wants to print and put a 3 foot photo on their living room wall of what the naked eye sees at midnight looking around, lol. I guess it depends on what you are going for. I like that you can line up half a dozen photographers and get half a dozen interpretations of the same scene.
  8. Sign up for around an inch every time. Even in big regionwide precip (or even snows), you just want to be solidly into the game. Vegetation wise, it does not matter in the least. The whole northeastern region is now Stein free for 1-2 weeks even if another drop of rain doesn't fall during that time.
  9. 1.86" and 39F here. Emptied the Stratus. Standing water everywhere. Feels like December, ha.
  10. 1.82” at the ASOS. Haven’t emptied stratus but it’s very wet out there. Rivers are raging.
  11. The “principle of Stein” has definitely moved towards a jackpot fetish verses soaking rain for vegetation. Get 1.5” of rain and it’s a Stein if everyone else gets 4”.
  12. Good stuff south of you. Models pegged 4-7pm.
  13. Twitter and 7-day TV icon forecasts for decades long weather fans is tough to hear sometimes when so much actual info is available at your fingertips.
  14. Not directed completely at Taunton, but sometimes it surprises me on this weather board how often long-time weather fanatics don’t just take a few minutes to look at widely available guidance to see what the weather will do each day around the area. I just figured that was like SOP for all on here.
  15. Yes. If one looks at models it’s there. Euro later today. NAM at 5pm has it moving in.
  16. No Stein talk for at least another 2-3 weeks after this one.
  17. Yeah and often those days feel worse despite departures. Can be solidly above normal mins without radiational cooling and precip/wind… that wipes out the daytime bit below departures. So on the books it’s not close to cold but people remember the afternoon vibe.
  18. Yeah definitely been spoiled. We forget even normal this time of year can be rough. Like when you get a solid winter taste in mid-November with a widespread snower and everyone wants winter…. then realize that climo is still for highs of 45F with mins just below freezing in early December. Thats what days around 50F are like this time of year after a period of 75F.
  19. Craziest thing is it’s not even that bad it looks like. Once you get outside of ORH/495 it was likely an above normal day. -3 BOS 0 ORH +4 BDL
  20. Up north, the MVL normal is 56/31, today was 61/46. A healthy +10 day.
  21. Yeah the land of $15 breakfast sandwiches and stuff like that.
  22. Cocaine bear. Dogs bite people walking/running daily too but you don’t run from them or carry a gun for it.
  23. Getting some bloom in the warm spots, and a little dusting overnight.
  24. Honestly it may have nothing to do with COVID now, just a lingering behavior. Like Asian cultures really started wearing masks in past outbreaks but continued to do so even after they ended. I think you see Immunocompromised folks continuing with masks when they found out it does seem to keep you from getting sick (with anything) as many folks went two years without even a sniffle thanks to masks and sanitation (though we need our bodies to get sick, so it’s too much of a good thing if you aren’t testing the immune system). I’ve also had a coworker wear one because they were sick with something not COVID and wanted to be polite and not spread it. I’m not sure I’d do the same (maybe I’m too selfish) but can’t hate the gesture.
  25. I’m not sure why my mind went here but this sums up why people are so divided on every little thing. Should be able to just say it’s laughable and a comedy show to get a point across… but we all love to make sure people we don’t agree with are labeled something further, like nutcases and lunatics. And we see it everywhere now, even Presidents. Although everyone has a bit of crazy in them, just shines through in different ways.
