  1. I am superstitious so you know it!! Just can't believe they are running Walker out there again today! Let's hope this is the end!!
  2. Today will be our last hot day for a while as many spots could touch the 90 degree mark which for some may be the last one of the season. The cold front will cross the region this evening but stall south of the area and creep back north as a warm front over the weekend. Best chance of rain and some could be heavy in any t-storms looks to be late tonight. Temps tomorrow will be sharply cooler with highs in the 70's...a few degrees warmer but not far from normal temps for the weekend before a turn to cooler again by Labor Day and the new work week. Chester County Records for today: High 100 degrees at Phoenixville (1948) / Record Low 38 degrees at Coatesville (1982) / Rain 8.00" at Phoenixville (2011)

  4. UHI FTW....look outside of the heat island for reality
  5. A brief warm up underway across the area today. Mid 80's today with many spots reaching the 90's tomorrow. But a quick cool down as Thursday and Friday have temps back below normal in the 70's for high temps. Small chances of showers with the front Wednesday night thru Thursday. Chester County Daily Records for Today: High 100 degrees at Phoenixville (1948) / Low 42 degrees also at Phoenixville (1944) / Rain 6.94" at Glenmoore (2011) from the remnants of Hurricane Irene that impacted the area.

  7. Wunderground does not QC those readings. Lots of folks on that site have poor siting issues or heat shield problems. The Highs on Sunday across Chester County were mostly in low 80's in higher county spots - Some NWS MADIS station reports from Sunday included West Grove 80.2/ Atglen 80.9/ Glenmoore 82.3 / Kennett Square 82.2 and KMQS Airport 82.2
  8. Yesterday made it 17 of the last 19 days with below normal temperatures for August. We turn that around starting today through Wednesday before we fall back below normal to close out the month next weekend. Slight rain chances Wednesday night through Thursday. Chester County Records for today: High 100 degrees at Phoenixville (1948) / Low 40 degrees also at Phoenixville (1944) / Rain 2.91" at Coatesville 1SW (1908)

  10. It appears that August will finish as the first below normal temperature month of the year (current estimate is 0.6 degrees below normal) and our first since last November when we were 1.2 degrees colder than normal. However, we do have an above normal temperature final week of August on the way with the warmest day being Wednesday when some spots may reach the 90's. If this happens this could well be the final 90 plus day of the year for some locations. Only a slight chance of a shower Monday evening otherwise continued dry. Chester County Records for today: High 101 degrees at Phoenixville (1943) / Low 40 degrees at Coatesvile 1SW (1927) / Rain 3.29" at West Chester (1905)

  12. Updated Chester County Average Temperatures by Decade 1890's thru 2020's (only 4 years) IF we don't start to see some cooling over the remainder of the decade we have a chance that the 2020's could be the warmest complete decade since reliable climate data began to be recorded in the 1890's. So far in the 2020's we are running 0.6 degrees warmer than our warmest full decade - the 1930's.

  14. I have updated the climate data base for Chester County to add additional stations. See the total list below. These include some that record all weather types (temperature, rain and snow), some just rain and snow and a few just rainfall amounts. This brings the total current and historical network up to 34 NWS COOP/MADIS/AWOS stations to 34. You will note I have included the mapping coordinates. The approximate midpoint latitude in the County is at 39.8 degrees - we have 18 stations north of there and 16 stations in Southern Chester County
  15. 56.4 for the overnight low. Our stretch of great weather looks to continue with a slow warming trend. In fact for some of the lower elevation spots by Wednesday we could touch 90 degrees. But any heat looks short lived as we fall back to more normal temperature levels to close out the new work week. Our only slight chance of rain looks to be Monday evening. Chester County Records for today: High 101 degrees at Phoenixville (1943) / Low 41 degrees also at Phoenixville (1973) / Rain 3.78" at West Grove (1933) from the remnants of The Chesapeake–Potomac hurricane.

  17. 14 of our last 16 days have featured below normal temperatures. Temps today will still be a little below normal (low 80's) levels. Tomorrow we warm to near normal and then above normal readings starting on Sunday. Our next chance of rain looks to be later Monday. Chester County Records for today: High 100 degrees at Phoenixville (1936) / Low 41 degrees at Coatesville 1SW (1952) / Rain 4.74" at Phoenixville (1933)

  19. Mr Mann and colleagues may want to focus on a new line of work.....they will need a near historic rest of the season to even approach this forecast. is this the worst forecast ever? Makes us feel real comfy on all of these climate forecasts we hear from alarmists like Mr. Mann!
  20. This morning was the coldest August morning here in East Nantmeal in over 10 years with our morning low of 51.7. This was the coldest reading since the 51.5 on August 15, 2014. Quite a few of the lower elevation spots reached the 40's with the lowest being the 45.8 at Warwick Township. We should see the higher spots again remaining in the unseasonably chilly 60's for highs today before we start a warming trend tomorrow through the weekend. Chester County Records for today: High 102 degrees at Sadsburyville (1916) / Low 41 degrees at Phoenixville (1949) / Rain 2.73" at West Grove (1933)

  23. High today in East Nantmeal was only 65.7 - coolest daytime high since the 62.6 on May 18th.
  24. No real heat anywhere in our future if the GFS is to be believed....
  25. Most spots dropped into the 50's this morning with the lowest being in East Nantmeal at 57.3 degrees - that was our coolest reading since the 56.3 degree low back on June 28th. Temperatures today in the higher ridge locations will top out just below 70 degrees - if that occurs this would mark the first time we have failed to at least reach 70 degrees since the 66.1 degree high on June 11th. There is no rain in sight for the rest of this week and our below normal temps will gradually increase to near normal by the weekend. No real heat in our future and for some spots 90 degree days are possibly over for this season. Chester County records for today: High 100 degrees at Phoenixville (1983) / Record Low was 39 degrees at Phoenixville (1949) this is also the earliest recording of a sub 40 degree temperatures in county history. Rain 4.00" at West Grove (1939)
