    This morning was the coldest morning here in East Nantmeal 24.1 degrees since the 22.5 degree reading back on March 19th. Today we will struggle to escape the 40's especially in the higher terrain of the county this is about 10 degrees colder than it should be for this time of the year. We warm up to the mid 40's tomorrow with some rain Sunday night before turning much colder again for mid week. Temperatures Tuesday will not get too far above freezing in some spots of Chester County. Records for today: High 74 (1979) / Low 12 (1938) / Rain 2.11" (1964) / Snow 6.0" (1938)

    Does anyone here in the Central PA Forum have an analysis like below comparing non-airport locales to more rural spots? The below chart compares all available NWS Coop sites in Chester County vs. The Philadelphia International Airport regarding annual average temperatures. This chart starts in 1940 through 2022. I chose 1940 as that is the year observations began at PHL Airport. As you can clearly see PHL airport (green line) heat island problem stands out like a sore thumb....PHL shows strong almost nonstop warming since 1940....while Chester County sites show no or at most minor warming across the County. Yet the PHL Airport is the only long term average temperature you will ever hear about on the local news.

    Happy Thanksgiving to everyone! Should be a great stretch of seasonably chilly weather with generally below normal temperatures over the next week as we move into December. The coldest day looks to be Saturday where some of the higher spots may struggle to escape the mid-30's The only chance of rain or a bit of mixed snow looks to be on Sunday evening. Records for today: High 73 (1931) / Low 11 (1989) / Rain 1.30" (1961) / Snow 2.9" (1989)

    I have now been at my current home location for 20 years this week here in East Nantmeal. I have taken daily weather observations every day of those 20 years. I have used the exact same station equipment (Davis Vantage Pro 2 solar fan aspirated model) sited at the exact same spot on my property. I thought I would begin to share some of those individual 20 year records.

    We picked up a total of 2.07" of rain with 0.49" falling since midnight. The 1.58" that fell yesterday was our largest single day rain total since the 2.55" that fell on September 24th. A couple of dry and seasonably chilly days will take us through Thanksgiving Day with highs today just north of 50 and tomorrow likely staying in the 40's it most spots. Much colder by Friday through the weekend with highs on Saturday remaining in the 30's. There is a slim chance at some snow or rain showers by Sunday night. Records for today: High 72 (1931) / Low 13 (1964) / Rain 1.86" (1991) / Snow 1.7" (1989)

    I see some of you neighbors to the west have reported some light snow and sleet this morning. If we see some light precip making it his far east we may see some ourselves this AM. The steady rain should arrive around the 2pm hour today and last through about 4am Wednesday morning. Most models show a general 1.5" to 2.0" of rain. We are over 5.5" below normal in the rain department this year. After today dry weather should continue through the holiday weekend. Tomorrow looks to be our one day with above normal temps before a return to below normal weather for most of the next week. Records for today: High 76 (1900) / Low 17 (1951) / Rain 2.29" (1952) / Snow 1.5" (2008)

    Some of our neighbors to the west in Lancaster County have reported some light snow and sleet this morning. If we see some light precip making it his far east we may see some ourselves this AM.     Today will be almost 10 degrees colder in spots compared to yesterday. A nice sunny fall day before rain moves in tomorrow morning. There is a chance some higher spots in NW Chesco could see a few flakes of snow or some ice pellets if the precipitation moves in fast enough in the AM. Either way it looks like between 1.5" to 2.0" of rain are possible tomorrow with chilly temps remaining in the low to mid 40's across the county. Below normal temps and dry weather look likely for the rest of the holiday week. Records for today: High 75 (1985) / Low 16 (1951) / Rain 1.80 (1952) / Snow 0.8" (1937)

    Many spots across the county had a frosty low in the 20's....the exceptions were some of the higher spots like where I am in East Nantmeal where we were no lower than 34 degrees this morning. Unfortunately, we are now almost 2" below normal rainfall for the month of November and 5.5" below our year to date average rain. The good news is that after the next coupled dry days we should see some beneficial rain moving in from southwest to northeast across the area on Tuesday afternoon. Most models agree on around 1.5" of rain before ending by daybreak on Wednesday. Below normal temps are likely for the rest of November. Records for today: High 74 (1913) / Low 12 (1924) / Rain 1.74" (1988) / Snow 3.0" (1955)

    We picked up 0.08" of rain overnight for a total of 0.10". The 0.08" that fell so far today is the most rain in a day since the 0.17" on October 29th. Temps have slowly been falling this morning with now mid-40's across the area since a midnight high temperature in the mid to upper 50's. We should not see below normal temperatures through the remainder of November and into the first week of December. The NWS has us getting back to the low 50's for much of the area...I suspect most of the county will actually struggle to make it out of the 40's today. Tomorrow looks to be our "mildest" day of the week with some spots touching 50 degrees. We should finally see some significant rain by Tuesday afternoon ending by Wednesday morning. Some spots could see almost 1" of needed rain. The Thanksgiving holiday weekend looks chilly and dry with days in the low 40's and nights in the 20's. Records for today: High 77 (1896) / Low 12 (1924) / Rain 1.21" (1929) / Snow 1.0" (1955)
