  1. Chilliest morning of the season so far here across Chester County with low temperatures ranging from the mid-30's in lower spots of the county below 500ft above sea level (ASL) to the lower 40's in most spots over 600 ft ASL. Here in East Nantmeal Township our low so far this AM has been 42.6 - chilliest since the 41.7 on May 13th. Today we warm to near normal in the mid 60's to temps rising into the low 70's both tomorrow and Thursday. We then start another sharp cooling trend for the weekend and the start of the new work week by next Monday with highs at that time struggling to make the low to mid 50's across much of the county.
  2. Today's Low temperature of 44.3 was our coldest reading since the 41.7 on May 13th
  3. Highs today across Chester County ranged from 74 in Glenmoore; 77.1 in East Nantmeal to 79 at Pottstown to 80.6 in West Chester to 80.7 at GO Carlson Chester County Airport...tomorrow will be our last well above normal day for a while
  4. With the sun finally returning both today thru Saturday will be well above normal but nowhere near the record highs for today which is 85 back in 1985 & 1920 and 89 tomorrow from way back in 1897. With the strong cold frontal passage on Saturday night it looks like our high temperatures both Sunday and Monday will for the most part stay in the 50's across most of the higher terrain across Western Chester County while low 60's in the lower spots across parts of Eastern Chester County.
  5. 11th straight day of above normal temps - should make it to at least 16 before the well advertised FROPA on Saturday night gets us back closer to normal temps with a reinforcing shot of cooler air by about this time next week.
  6. .08" overnight. Leaves are starting to pop a bit despite the continuing warmth.
  7. The Phillies are the winningest team in town as the only team with 2 Championships that anyone younger than 50 years old can remember....being a Philadelphia sports fan means dedication and loyalty with very little reward....we are great fans!! https://www.bizjournals.com/philadelphia/news/2021/05/27/76ers-flyers-tv-ratings-bely-their-performances.html?fbclid=IwAR2NpaCRWpTjjil9_VMlwGTyPT6DZFpKIo-cBHV3AL3mWAcv2IevwM8356c
  8. Through yesterday we appear well on our way to one of the warmest October's in Chester County history with an average temp so far this month running over 6 degrees above normal. So does a warm October mean a "warmer" winter here in the County? Well below are 6 long term National Weather Service observer sites (Coatesville/Glenmoore/Phoenixville/Octoraro Lake, West Chester and Devault). I have ranked the top 10 warmest Octobers and compared them to the subsequent winter. Overall across all of the sites there is a 65% chance of a warmer than normal winter. But that said it is only slightly above normal at just 0.7 degrees across all 6 sites. Snowfall wise 2 seasons were above normal 3 near normal and 5 below normal snow seasons.
  9. Phil just to clarify the amount of games has nothing to do with it - it is average viewers per game....if anything because there are more baseball games by far than any sport you would think average viewers per game would be less. Imagine if the Phillies only played 17 games like the Birds??
  10. Our 6th straight above normal day....now does a warm October = a warm winter?? what will the data show....
  11. I saw some interesting stats about sports viewership in the Philly area in 2021. The Phillies are far and away the most watched team in this area (excluding of course a 1x a week Eagles game) averaging more than 70% more viewers than the Flyers and 50% more than the Sixers - both the Flyers and Phillies increased viewership while the Sixers actually declined slightly vs. 2020 - that seems strange as they were by far the most competitive team.
  12. Yesterday's high was just about normal....however the overnight low was about 15 degrees warmer than normal. Even warmer next week as even here in NW Chesco we might hit the mid-70's. Longer range models still show a cool down to closer to normal by later next weekend into the week of the 18th.
  13. For anyone in Chester County if interested I have started a new Facebook Group page. This will be strictly about the weather. Including weather observations, analysis, forecasts, your photos and discussions specifically related to the unique climate and weather of Chester County PA. During active weather it will broaden the focus to across the entire PA/NJ and DE area. Thanks and I hope to see you there!! Paul https://www.facebook.com/groups/chescowx/
  14. 46.3 up on the ridges - valley spots hit the low 40's - coolest here since the 45.4 on May 30th. Below is how many Septembers have finished with above average temps over the last 10 years PHL - 8 of 10 / Phoenixville - 8 of 10 / Chesco - 6 of 10 / KMQS - 6 of 10 / Octoraro Lake - 6 of 10 / Glenmoore - 4 of 10
  15. Only made it down to 52.2 here in the relatively higher spots in Chesco...looks like will finish September a little over 1 degree above normal for the 49th warmest September on record. Rainfall wise the 10.03" is good for the 3rd wettest September behind only the 14.48" in 1999 and the 10.58" in 2003
  16. This AM's low of 51.2 was our lowest since the 50.3 on June 23rd
  17. I have updated the analysis with 2 more COOP sites (Devault and HoneyBrook). So we now have all 8 NWS COOP sites across Chester County. I have also added a linear trend line for all 8 sites. This indicates that (4) four COOP sites show a linear cooling trend - (1) one is near steady and (3) three show a warming trend.
  18. A strong line of thunderstorms is developing across Western Chester County PA - temperatures will drop about 10 degrees behind the line as the cold front passes off to the east
  19. Highest wind gust here 26mph since March 26 - rain just 2 miles west of East Nantmeal - WXSIM shows 2.15" of rain today
