  1. Today was our first widespread freeze for all locations across Chester County. This ends the growing season at 207 days which is 9 days longer than our average season. Here in East Nantmeal we have reached a low so far of 28.7 this morning - we did not see readings that cold last year until the 28.2 on November 18th. Below normal temps both today and tomorrow before a nice warming trend begins over the weekend that brings us to above normal temps by mid-week before colder weather again toward next weekend. Next rain chances not till Monday night. Records for today: High 82 (1982) / Low 20 (1923) / Rain 1.72" (2018)

  3. Agreed Walt! I have now gone through 5 units (customer service is great and always replace) however nothing beats the reliability of my Davis VP2 Pro - I have only had to replace it 1x in 20 years of service as of this month. Costs more but also more accurate with the fan aspirated shield which improves summer time readings. Highly recommend that one! Paul
  4. October finished as the 29th warmest October with an average temperature of 56.3. The warmest October with now 130 years of observations was way back in 1900 at 61.3 degrees the coldest was the 47.1 degrees back in 1925. It was also the 32nd driest October with just 1.91" of rain falling. The all-time dry October was back in 1924 when a scant 0.05" of rain fell. The wettest October was just 11 years ago when 9.12" fell in 2012 with the impact of Hurricane Sandy across the area. We saw some reported snow flurries not to far west of Chester County this morning and today will be a cold day for the 1st day of November with temps struggling to escape the mid-40's in the higher elevations and remaining in the upper 40's in lower spots. We will see our 1st widespread freeze tonight. I expect some higher spots of Western Chester County to dip below freezing as early as the 10pm hour this evening. So local farmers and green thumbs should be sure to bring in any tender vegetation. This will effectively end the growing season here in the County at 206 days since our last freeze back on April 9th. This is the longest growing season since the 231 days back in 2017. Our temps should start to rebound toward the weekend with sunny skies and above normal temps.

  6. The cold front that slipped through over the weekend is trying to move back north this morning which has caused some light rain. Since yesterday we have received 0.22" of rain. There may be quite the spread in temperatures early this afternoon as temps may be near 60 across NW Chester County and near 70 across southern portions of the county. High temps should occur around 2pm. The cold front will slice though the county from NW to SE during the 2pm hour with temps falling quickly through the 50's and reaching the 40's by 7pm across much of the county. Much colder weather with temps remaining in the 40's for highs for Tuesday through Thursday. We have a slight chance of some wet snow mixed with rain toward Wednesday morning. Widespread freezing temperatures are likely both Thursday and Friday morning before temps rise to near normal levels by next weekend. Records for today: High 82 (1946) / Low 21 (1928) / Rain 1.48" (1935)

  8. Not quite central PA....but I am actual closer to KLNS than I am to KPHL...only 7.5 miles from the Lancaster County and 6 miles from Berks County
  9. Some light rain across the county this morning...a bit drier but still cloudy this PM with more rain arriving late tonight. Rainfall amounts should be light and generally less than 0.25" in most spots. It will be over 20 degrees cooler than yesterday with high temps closer to normal in the upper 50's. Of note yesterday was the last day with an average high temperature of 60 degrees....the next time we average above 60 will be April 12th. Records for today 79 (1946) / Low 23 (1976) / Rain 4.04" (2012)

  11. With any chance of 90 degree days behind us - below is an updated analysis of 90+ days over the last 20 years comparing the PHL Airport vs. the NWS COOP sites in Chester County. Here in East Nantmeal we finished with no 90+ days for the 4th time in the last 20 years. This was true for both of my ground based stations...although my rooftop station (poorly sited) did record 6 such days. Of note all locations experienced less 90+ days during the last 10 years than the previous 10. Of course the PHL Airport continues to average more with their heat island problems.

  13. For those with the Eagles as their #1 interest but with my family it's always been Phillies 1 and Eagles 2....love Sunday football!! Just not enough games compared to the nearly daily fix of baseball for me!!
  14. Today may very well be our warmest day until next spring. Most spots will see high temperatures well into the 70's. However, it will not be close to the record high for today which is 84 degrees set way back in 1919. A cold front crosses the area tonight and it will feel much cooler by later tonight but with low temps still almost 10 degrees above normal at near 50 degrees. Tomorrow will be a much different day with showers around a cool east wind and temps remaining nearly steady in the mid-50's across most of the county. Shower chances continue through Monday. Even chillier air moves in by Monday night with highs through Thursday remaining in the 40's during the day. It looks likely the growing season will end across Chester County by as early as Wednesday morning but more likely by Thursday morning with lows in the upper 20's. Some lower spots in the County have already seen freezing temps this fall but this week will see a widespread freeze. Records for today: High 84 (1919) / Low 17 (1936) / Rain 1.60" (1902)

  16. Today should be several degrees warmer than yesterday with the warmth peaking by Saturday. At least for Chester County any record highs look beyond reach as those records are in the low 80's. Cooler air spreads into the area by Monday with temps falling to well below normal again by next week. We may see higher spots by next Wednesday struggling to get out of the low 40's with our first widespread freeze potential increasing by that time...so enjoy the warmth the next few days! Records for today: High 79 (1963) / Low 24 (1950) / Rain 2.35" (1943)
  17. If I had shoveled as much digital snow as forecast last year....my snow blower would have been exhausted!!

  19. You could see Kimbrel wearing down...just can't believe Topper went back to the well with him on Friday night! Still a great year...they may go down as one of the most liked teams in Philly history across all sports! Now if they can mix in a Championship over the next couple years that would seal the deal! Folks are hurting this week...but I suspect by March folks will be ready for some baseball!!!
  20. Sad day for sure for this long time Phillies Phan! but the beauty of the game is hope will spring eternal come March! Thank you Phils for a great year!! Back to weather - 13 of the last 17 days have featured below normal temperatures including yesterday. That all changes starting today and lasting through Sunday with our high temps reaching the 70's before a turn to much colder in time for Halloween. With the exception of some possible morning fog with the longer nights and mild readings...we look to stay dry till at least Sunday. Records for today: High 80 (1900) / Low 22 (1952) / Rain 2.31" (1980) 13 of the last 17 days have featured below normal temperatures including yesterday.
