  1. Needless to say I wasn't prepared for precision measurements tonight. I think I'll skip the core sample this time around
  2. I mean, who among us would have said "first week of November" when asked at any point this met. fall when we'd see first frozen? Certainly not me.
  3. No model other than the NAM even showed precip within 150 miles of us until yesterday morning, lol. I call this a vast overperformer.
  4. I've flipped completely, big catpaws with surprisingly low vis... may qualify for S with no minus sign. Top of my truck getting slushy. Congrats to us!
  5. Current trends and historical precedent indicate a high probability of animated political debates with distant relatives at the dinner table
  6. Daytime models trended a little less parched with the s/w passing south of us tomorrow night and Albany pulled the trigger on 20% PoPs as a consequence, including the mention of snow in my P&C. Looks like Upton generally followed suit for northern zones. First frozen p-type in the forecast is always an exciting time of year.
  7. Sun's starting to peek out here in the warm sector. We steambath. Meanwhile, the GFS has afternoon temps on Friday in the mid-upper 20s falling to the upper teens Saturday morning. Should be fun to watch the general public get their first reminder that summer can't last forever.
  8. It would be nice if the rest of the guidance didn't look like this. The NAM can be safely tossed on this one. Real story is the weekend cold shot and storm signal on its heels early next week.
  9. At least our advantage over the Mid-Atlantic and even the NY metro is that much above average doesn't necessarily mean decent snow is out of the question. We have a nice stretch when even like a +5F month can still support frozen most of the time. We're in a fairly stormy regime as of the last few weeks so if that keeps up, I'll take my chances. Even a mighty cutter is better than dry. Anything but dry.
  10. Same here. Loathsome though this wx may be, I can't think of a more fitting way to start November than 44F and stratiform drizzle. It just feels right. Sucks for the first day of lights installation though.
  11. Kaaterskill today was the highest I've seen it (though I wasn't there after Irene or Lee so that doesn't say much). Looking down the clove from the top of the falls, you could see mist billowing back up the entire height of the upper tier. Just a thunderous roar.
  12. Fog is awesome. Only radiation fog that you can climb above so it becomes an undercast, though.
  13. I'm up at Bash Bish Falls and she's roaring today... mist soaking me and the camera hundreds of feet downwind. My guess is the falls and creeks in the area are at their highest discharge levels in a couple years. Hope to hit Kaaterskill and maybe a couple others in the next day or two while the runoff is still at peak.
  14. Albany tweeted that they expect winds to intensify still. Not sure it'll be by much, but yeah, it's breezy. No power issues so far except one brief flicker about an hour ago. The storm notwithstanding, this WS game is probably the most epic baseball game I've ever watched.
  15. I asked the spruce tree out front but it just lobbed a pine cone at me.
  16. I can't find my handheld anemometer. Now I'll have to stand out in the driving rain just for the heck of it
  17. I've now had my first gust that roared instead of merely whooshing. Just sitting back, watching the WS, and keeping my phone topped up at 100% in anticipation of what's probably to come.
  18. Flash flood warning for Dutchess and Litchfield, calling for totals of 3-6". I believe it.
