We joke about fake cold, but do you honestly think we as meteorologists somehow think otherwise? It’s a joke guys. Our point is that it was just ideal radiational cooling since temps aloft aren’t too cold.

It’s -16 or so at 850. That’s my point. The cold is just crisp dry air, snow, and HP. That’s why temps are so low. So from a met standpoint, I find that interesting.

That cold is all radiation. Thicknesses aren’t even that cold. Just high pressure and snow pack.

Light snow here but just a dusting. That stuff today is more cellular and won’t stack like those bands. At least for now.

I just realized something. I'm not sure if I am proud or scared by it. I went down to see some cool mesoscale effects and snow, suddenly I feel happier. Even though I am home and it looks like a Chernobyl landscape outside...was nice to see.
