I’m pretty far south of that band, and it’s snowing heavily here. I can’t imagine what it’s like in that band. must be insane

It’s in and out. 12hr storm for the west zones.
excuse me, but earlier today a certain poster from the mountains of CT promised us it was a 24+ hour storm.

I've had to weenie tag him already. Wanting severe and snow storms and getting mad when I temper his expectations.
so you treat your son pretty much the same way you treat DIT

Would any kind of portable be able to operate a well pump, pressure tank, water heater, furnace, etc. basically a whole house
yup. I have a 5500/8500 watt portable genny, and it powers well, oil furnace, and most everything else except large appliances

at mi casa, it flipped to snow at around 10:45 after about .3” of rain. temp dropped from 36 to 33, and we just rotted on either side of 33 for the rest of the day. the ground got white quickly, and seemed to accumulate quickly. But it was so wet, it just never stacked up. driving around yesterday you could tell that even slightly higher elevations got mor accumulation. interesting storm.

I think late Dec 2007 was very good in NNE, yes? I didn't move here until the following year. Late December with cold air nearby is a good bet for many of us. I think that 2007-08 winter didn't feature a lot of big storms, but light and moderate ones were frequent. I've learned not to like some of the patterns that the MA and SNE like.
you would have liked Dec 2007. no real big storms, just SWFE after SWFE. It seemed like we were getting 6-7” every 3-4 days.

I've never found snow storms to be much of an issue for power, except the October 2011 job. As long as leaves are off the trees it's really not a big deal.
Drunk? I lost power for 3 days due to a heavy wet snow storm the night before thanksgiving 5 or 6 years ago.

So that means I have to put away the golf cart? It's still so warm.
no way. I love cruising up and down the street doing power slides in the middle of a good snow storm. my cart is ready to go 12 months a year. knobby tires and lift kit help though.

51° and partly sunny in December. It definitely doesn’t feel like snow tomorrow.
I was outside dealing with Xmas lights during lunch. it was actually quite toasty in the sun. then I tried to think of a time it was this warm the day before a snowstorm. Then I realized that although I will never remember, Will @ORH_wxman will be along shortly after I post this to tell me.

We ran these things at construction sites in all elements without issue so i'm not sure where that's coming from.
I’ve run my portable genny in all kinds of weather with no probs. never knew otherwise. I’ll take my chances with it out in the weather as opposed to in the garage

People still talking about a “drought” down there? It’s soaking wet up here already. Standing water everywhere.
I had standing water out back after the Sunday night/Mon morning rain. picked up another inch today. I have not had standing water out back since late spring. so yeah, it’s been wet.
-
closing in on an inch of rain. Temp is up to 35.
